I laid in bed as my body ached in pain, I didn't make any movement to trigger more pain. I heard footsteps get closer to the room, my eyes still stared at the ceiling. The door opened, a blue figure was visible, but only seen at the corner of my eye.
"You doing fine?" The figure asked, holding onto the door frame as he leaned to the opposite way.
It was Neteyam, he walked over to the bed frame, resting on it. No movement from me was made, I just stared at the ceiling, the ceiling with rays of light on it from the sun.
"Yo..Du?" Neteyam leaned over me, calling me by my nickname (Due). he seemed to be trying to make sure I was alive. He waved a hand over me, his face went from relaxed to worried. I blinked to make him aware I was indeed alive, he had a little smile upon his lips.
"Oh, you are okay..why aren't you moving?" Neteyam crawled over me to lay beside me. My lips felt numb trying to tell him, I looked at him pursing my lips,
"P-ain." Unclear words came out, I hoped he understood. He rose a brow shifting to lean on his arm.
"Your hurting? I can go tell mom!" He sprung up.
I nodded trying to ignore the pain in every move. It was dead silent when Neteyam left, I heard the muffled voices echoing from up in the room. Footsteps again came closer, and closer..except they sound like shoes, thick ones. The door cranked open, a blue figure wearing a green marine shirt and cargo pants stepped into the room. I teared my eyes from the ceiling to the man, a shock of deja vu made me sick to the stomach upon seeing the familiar face, it was Quaritch. I opened my mouth in fear as she stepped closer to me, "You.." I breathed, wincing at the pain around my mouth. Quaritch smiled, following he crossed his arms.
"Me, yes it's me, I see your english has gotten better, I've been watching you over the years.." He shut down a frame of me and Tuk, it slammed onto the nightstand.
No!
I uncontrollably shook my head, it wasn't me doing so, Quaritch's body deformed into a great parasite, flashing black and white at the same time charging at me. My eyes we shut tight, I muttered 'stop it' multiple times praying to Eywa. I felt a pair of hands shake me awakes as I continued shrieking. A muffled voice yelled at me, a vibration rung in my body as the voice kept repeating 'Dune'. I already knew it was Jake, he normally wakes me up like this when I doze out. My eyelids automatically opened to a bright light coming from my left, and a blurred image of Jake and Neytiri worriedly trying to awaken me.
"Hey, calm down its alright!" Jakes cold hand cupped my cheek as I stopped frantically panicking, holding onto his arm.
What was that? Why was I seeing Quaritch?
My hyperventilation seemed to worry Jake as he frowned, Neytiri scooted in front of him, cupping the other side of my face overlapping on top of Jakes arm. I started having a full on meltdown, I felt my eyes burn as they teared up when they pain from moving starting stinging.
"Shh..it's okay, don't frighten yourself!" Neytiri pressed her lip's against my forehead, before running her knuckles down and up. Her braids hanging from her head tickled my shoulder as she leaned over me, wiping away my tears. Jake took my hand, warming it with the palm of his, pressing another hand on top. I saw a portion of Neyteyams head in the background, soon to be blocked by Neytiris.
❥
"I've never seen anything like it happen with her, it's like she had a unexpected seizure." I paced around the room as Norm took note of my words. Neytiri sat on a separate couch, the one most far from Norm and his supplies.
"Okay, so..passing out, major injuries, and frantic shrieking during sleep?" Norm fiddled with the pen as he read the notes.
I nodded, but I felt like I was missing everything. Norm hummed, he stopped fumbling with the pen. "Jake, it's definitely a seizure.."
I felt dumb when he said that, I was thinking it was some rare illness infecting her.
"Right, but it's just weird seeing it happen after cuts..maybe it was her fight?" I added out of curiosity.
Neytiri looked like she was about to bare her teeth at me, she hated the thought I was giving personal information to these Norm. Suddenly a ringtone playing 'it's raining tacos' rung from Norms direction. He quickly whipped out his phone from his pocket, silencing it.
"I'm sorry Jake, I gotta go to an important place-" Norm stood up grabbing his supplies, a happy looking Neytiri interrupted him.
"Good, you don't want to be late to your wherever..so hurry up with it." Neytiri gave him a personal smile.
My ears twitched before pinning back of second hand embarrassment, Norm waved me goodbye heading for the door.
Neytiri made sure he was fully gone, glaring out the window.
"Neytiri, you really didn't have to say that—." My sentence was short and brief once Neytiri shot me a look, as if she left her inner beast out. I shut my mouth tight, looking down to my feet.
"Your sky friends didn't even give the poor child a cure, you expect me to not?" Neytiri crossed her arms.
"We'll you did ask him to hurry up.." I replied, knowing a response of anger would come back to me.
"It was a fake question!" Neytiri exclaimed, shutting the blinds hastily.
I rubbed the bridge of my nose, feeling upcoming headache. It was just morning and there's more chaos to get rid of.
"I promise, Norm won't come back until this matter ends, hey?" I moved forward to Neytiri, opening my arms.
Neytiri sighed at me, disappointed with me. I cocked my head, pouting at her to make her feel pity.
It was only a few matter of seconds until she agreed with me, leaving the sitting room.
❥
It has been a few days nice I fell ill, I'm walking better, eater better, and my body doesn't feel any worse. I eyes at the bright morning sun which seemed to be lighting u the entire room. I gently kicked off blanket, shifting to sit on the bed side as I tensed my shoulders and pressed the sharp corner of the bedsheets. I rubbed my eyes, before tuning to the alarm clock which displayed the date, it read, May, June, 2023. I gasped at the date, I have been I'll since last week?! I was lucky I was on break, otherwise I'd miss a lot of classes. No new news have arrived lately, I stepped off the bed before a stumbled back. I felt light headed after taking just a step, my legs ached as they were stretched to stand. With another try, I managed to stay put, the second step was fine, the third step was okay, the next steps to the door were good enough. Suddenly I felt a hard impact knocking me down, it seemed whatever knocked me down was charging full speed towards me. I grunted once a landed on the wodden floor, a gasped escaped from someone's mouth.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" The voice sounded like Tuk as it apologized, my sense told me it was kneeling doing to me.
I groaned as Tuk latch her arm onto mine, pulling me off the ground a I used my other arm to hold her.
"Are you okay?oh I'm so sorry!" Tuk scanned every inch of me at I held my head, wincing at a sudden time, holding my arm up as she froze.
"Eugh-...what, what is it?" I shook my head, fixing my eyes in Tuks as she looked my me worrying.
"You have a huge injury, on your waist!" She pointed, then stroking my waist with a small finger trying to sooth it.
What the injury was was disgusting, it was a pink thing fading into my blue skin color as it streetcars around my back, 8 was about 3 inches tall, 8t looked like my flesh but it wasn't, I came to consider it's a rash. Now that Tuk pointed it out, I started scratching like crazy, it stung me, I rubbed it, pressed my hand on it, I tried everything to sooth it as Tuk watched me as if I were a fool.
"Dont scratch it, mom says it would make it worse!" Tuk gently pushed my hand away, but I couldn't resist the burning as I scrambled to continue.
She led me downstairs as Kiri passed by, her eyebrows curled up in worry.
"Whats happened, is she okay?" Kiri didn't hesitate to assist me down the stairs, her hand wrapped around me as she gasped at it, muttering something in Na'vi. Lo'ak the was third to step in,
"Yo what's happening, why are you all hogging her?" Loak synced up with our steps as he tried to take a glance at me.
"Guys-" I groaned, clenching my jaw,"it's just a rash I'm fine!" I shut my eyes tight hoping this pain would vanish.
Kiri had a puzzled look on her face, "just a rash? Have you looked twice! It's a scar!" Kiri exclaimed.
I look over my shoulder, looking as low as possible to see the 'scar' in general.
It was not a rash anymore, it was a wide, deep, cut, blood stained my skin around it.
I almost vomited, this explains why I was feeling so lightheaded this morning, blood-loss.
Kiri had an almost angry look at Loak, "Loak! Rug, now!" Kiri pointed to the kitchen with the rugs on the island.
Loak rushed to the island, reaching for the rugs then opening the freezer. He came with a rug wrapping around a big ice cube, place it on my scar.
"Go get dad!" Loak order Tuk as she scrambled outside, struggling to open the door.
I could hear Tuk and Jakes muffled convo from inside, Jake figure appeared in front of Tuks as he hastily hurried in.
Kiri and Loak sat me down on a couch, Kiri just stared at the cut with wide eyes like a glowing ember.
Jakes hand made contact with my shoulder before I knew it, so quick to act. He scanned the cut, his as flickering back and forth as he winced even though it wasn't even his own.
His troubled face made me worry more, he cocked his head before saying,
"I can't treat this, get my phone and call 911." His cold hand made me shiver as it supported on my back.
Tuk took my hand, brushing my knuckles against her face as she pouted at my miserable state.
"Dont worry Dune, your gonna be Okay." She reassured me, hugging my arm.
My breathing got heavier and faster as the pain tortured my body, Tuks warm finger stroked my arm, she seem to be calming the pain. Jake took my hand, trying to say something, but whatever he said was faded away once I started feeling lightheaded. It was happening again, I gave up on fighting pain as I lost Tuks grip and my hand fell, it felt as if I was consumed by a void.
❥
It was all so confusing, how could she randomly have an insanely deep cut when she never moved from her bed? Neytiri bolted through the doors, her purse dangling as she whipped her head round in search of me. She gasped as she walked to me, clutching her purse, her sandals slapping on the floor. I felt my face change to a puzzled expressions seeing her in this state.
"Neytiri I.." I couldn't finish my explaining before she gripped my necklace, pulling me towards her in a threatening way. Thank Eywa thee was no one in the waiting room.
"How! How could you let this happen!" She started blaming this on me.
"Wha- I don't know! Please not right now!" I clasped my hands on her arm to push it back.
She scowled at me, tearing her hand away from mine. Man she really loved Dune.
"Take me to her, I want to see her." She cleared the path for me to stand, looking at the door then back to me.
I pursed my lips hard at the thought of telling her she couldn't, I just couldn't get the words outta my lips.
I exhaled, "I..cant, Neytiri" I paused, allowing her to interrupt me but she didn't, "they're stitching her wounds up."
She gasped, "poor child.." she sat down besides me.
"How did she get the scars?" She blinked two times, waiting for an awnser.
I didn't know what to say, even I knew I was gonna respond with how clueless I am.
I took a glance at her, "I don't know, that's the thing."
She hummed, resting her eyelids as she gazed at the floor.
"She probably sleepwalked?" I started, knowing that was a dumb thing to do when she was in her condition.
She shook her head, "No, that can't be it." She didn't look at me saying that.
"Unless someone intruded in, and did it." She glanced at me, her expression was not quite as good saying that.
I stared into her eyes for a moment, that could be the case for the cut. I was stuck in between sides of agreeing and disagreeing.
Why did that conclusion make me start thinking like Einstein? Out of all the causes that would be considered true, this one was somewhat surprising.
"You are thinking, Jake, thinking too hard." Neytiri is voice took my head out of the clouds, "it was just a thought, we can get an investigation into this."
I remembered something once she said that, "Well, Norm and Max we're concerned for Dunes health and..." I squinted my eyes, Neytiri's ears twitched at the sound of 'Norm'. Her expression was sharp towards me.
"They insisted on coming back to help." I wanted to disappear, dissolve into the floor, and looked away from that gruesome look on her face.
"Jake," I felt her eyeing me as she spoke, "count your days."
