Julia sits at the bar, drinking soda water. She has an admirer. Sitting alone at one of the tables is a middle aged man by the name of Prudhoe. A nervous, slightly paunchy individual. Julia glances at him. His eyes don't leave her for a moment. He's trying his best to get the courage to approach her.
Julia looks away, and concentrates on her drink. Now she takes out a cigarette, fumbling for it. Her hands are trembling slightly. She lights the cigarette, draws on it, and as she does so she seems to make up her mind that's she's not the equal of it. She stubs the cigarette out, puts cash on the bar for her drinks and gets up to leave.
Suddenly, Prudhoe's at her side. "Not much fun, is it?"
"What?"
"Drinking alone." He replies.
Julia gulps. "Not much."
"I wonder, maybe..." He's so nervous he can barely speak. "...as we both on our own...we could have one together?"
Julia looks at him. He seems almost be offering himself to her. There's a long pause while she tries to make up her mind.
Then: "why not?"
Julia smiles. The smile works wonders. Prudhoe's nerves diminish somewhat. Julia simply increases, not that she's committed herself. Again, she opens the pack of cigarettes, as Prudhoe calls the barman over.
He turns to Julia. "What are you drinking?"
"Just soda."
"Plain soda?"
"Please."
"I try not to drink at lunchtime. It makes me sleepy in the afternoon. You like to keep a clear head, eh?"
Prudhoe turns to the barman. "One soda. One whisky..." He turns to Julia. "...I do it anyway. No will-power. Got a busy afternoon?"
Julia looks straight at him. "That depends."
"Oh?"
He stares at her, not certain he interprets her correctly. She stares back. Then; the tiniest of smiles, which he - scarcely believing his luck returns.
It was lunch time, and the cinema was packed with horror fans.
Behind the counter, Grace is trying to do six things at once. Somebody wants their tickets, someone wants a large coke, the toilets are blocked and someone is complaining. She's doing her best, but loosing the battle.

"Ah, ah, ah, very funny guys." She sassed.
"It was... Happy Halloween..." Steve says.
"You do know Halloween isn't till next week right." Grace points out.
"Can't Halloween be early anyway." He replies.
Kirsty laughs. "Isn't he funny."
Grace laughs at Kirsty s face. She was smitten by Steve.
"What are you doing here?"
"Can we get two tickets to see Dracula, please." Steve asks politely.
Grace smiles. "Sure. Drinks? Popcorn?"
"A seven up for me. And a toffee popcorn please." Kirsty asks?
"And a large coke and butter popcorn for me." Steve asks.
Grace goes to the next counter and pulls out two tickets to see Dracula. Then she gets the drinks ready, doing a large for Kirsty as a treat, and gets the popcorn, both large.
Steve pays for everything, and waits till room six doors open.
"How's your first day going?" Asks Kirsty.
"It's okay. Didn't know it was going to be this busy. Boss man left his wife is sick or something."
Steve frowns. "He's probably gambling again."
"Huh?"
"His wife is on holiday with the girls. He gambles when she isn't here." Steve tells her.
"I feel like I'm Going to mess up."
"Your doing great?" Replies Kirsty. Steve nods. "Don't get yourself down. Your new at this." Grace smiles a little.
They are interrupted by a old woman shouting. "What do you have to do to get some service around here?"
"We will catch you later." Kirsty tells her, as they walk into room six.
