Grace body freezes. She slowly turns around, her eyes wide with fright and now understanding. The bell was getting louder in her head. Someone had looped their entrails around her neck, and was pulling the knot tight.
"Come to daddy."
Grace put out her hand to steady herself. It wasn't Larry speaking to her. It was her father...frank.
"Oh my god." Kirsty gasps in shock.
If Grace was going to hell, she might as well take her father and Julia with her.
"I know who you are..." She said loudly.
Larry's body was left in her bedroom, left to lie in her father's bandages. The usurped skin was now wed to his brother's skin, the marriage sealed with blood.
The coils around her tightened, it could be seconds before they dragged her off. In desperation, she walks towards her father who is wearing Larry's face.
He smiles at this.
"It's you..." She whispers.
She reaches out and scratches his face. Startled, he takes a step back to avoid her again. Grace moves forward, her nails raked the flesh of his cheek, it slides away like silk.
Behind her, Julia's voice is head loud and clear.
"Frank!" She screams.
The bell stops suddenly. Kirsty screams as frank lunges at grace. The lights in the hallway flicker. Grace avoids Frank's blow, but in doing so allows him to get in-between her and Kirsty. Kirsty punches him and rushes next to Grace. They watch in horror as he pulls out his pocket knife.
Frank smirks. "You remember this, Grace." He asks, waving the knife at her. "Let's play, baby girl."
Grace's heels hit the bottom of the stairs and suddenly there was another hand on her, reaching through the banister, holding her hair. It was Julia. She wrenches Grace's head back, exposing her throat as Frank's knife gleams towards it.
At the last moment, kirsty reaches up and snatched Julia's arm, wrenching her from the forth stair. Julia loses balance and falls, her body becoming between Grace and frank thrust. The blade was too close to be averted; it enters Julia's stomach deeply. She moans in pain, then she reels away down the hall, the knife buried in her.
Grace pulls Kirsty up the stairs who stood there frozen in shock.
"Hide." Grace whispers to Kirsty.
Frank turns to Julia. "Nothing personal baby." He sucked the life out of her and went after the girls. The third floor offered no real hiding place, of course nor was there any escape route, except to leap from one of the windows. But having seen her father kill his mistress, jumping out of the window was the only option. The fall might break every bone in her body, but it would at least deprive her father of further substance.
Grace stumbled along it rather than walk, her fingertips moving along the wall. She looked up the stairs and noticed Kirsty wasn't to be found. Grace was happy that she found a hiding place.
Downstairs she heard her father. He was finishing with Julia and now she could hear him coming up the stairs.
"Come to daddy."
She had almost reached the end of the landing. Ahead was the junk room. Did it have a window sizable for her to climb through? If so, she would jump, and curse them all as she fell. God and the devil and whatever lay between, curse them and as she dropped, hoped it would be a quick death.
She rushed into the junk room, scaring Kirsty as she tried to get out the window.
"Shit! It's stuck." She cried.
Grace tried to help Kirsty. She puts her fingers under the frame and tries to lift it up. She quickly looked for a makeshift lever, non-use.
"Where are you, beautiful. Daddy wants to play." Frank sings.
Grace lifts a cloth of one of the boxes. Staring up was a dead body. She reels back, terrified, backing into the shadows. An arm reaches for her, taking hold of her and dragging her back into the darkness. Her father stands in the doorway he stumbled forward, but he doesn't see her or Kirsty. Grace's eyes are wide with terror. She watches him leave the room, he's gone, for now. Grace breaks cover and so does Kirsty.
"He is gone. We need to get out of here." She whispers to Kirsty.
Kirsty nods her head. " I'll go and check. You stay here."
Kirsty steps out of the room and into the landing.
The house is strangely still. The lights swing a little; but otherwise, nothing. She reaches the banister and looks down. Larry and Julia's bedroom door is shut, she couldn't see Frank.
"Grace." Kirsty whispers.
As Grace steps out of the room, she doesn't notice her father coming out of hers, the knife in his hand. Frank rushes as Grace turns to see him, her mouth opens, but no sound comes out. Grace could hear screaming in the background, but all she felt was pain.
Looking away from her father's eyes, she stares down at her stomach. All she sees is the end of the knife and blood. She grips the handle but frank is much stronger, he twists the knife in her stomach. Grace gasps, her mouth hanging open. Frank grabs the back of her head and pulls her face closer as his tongue enters her mouth.
"No!" Kirsty cries, hitting frank with a bottle of whisky.
Frank stumbled, but quickly was ready to charge again. With all the strength Grace had she punched Frank in the face.
Kirsty grabs Grace as she loses balance and is close to going over the banister of the stairs. In Kirsty s hand is the box. Frank turns on Kirsty, who avoids the knife, but Grace doesn't as it slides her throat. It didn't go into her flesh deep, but she was losing blood. She doesn't cry out in pain, she's too numb to feel anything. Kirsty guides Grace back and they stumble into Grace's room.
Grace falls backwards over Larry's body.
Frank enters the room with a twisted smirk on his face." There you both are."
"Who are you..." Kirsty asks dumbly. "Why are you doing this?"
"Poor baby's. Both of you are losing your minds, are you?" He mocks them.
"Please...tell...us..." Grace gasps for air, blood pouring out her mouth. "I...need...to....know." she begged. Grace know that she was dying. The Cenobites needed him to confess.
"Please...." She cried, her vision blurry. She started to feel tired and cold.
"Hush, baby girl," he said. He was stooping to her in the darkness, his face inches of theirs. "Everything's going to be alright..."
"Will it?" Kirsty cried.
He nodded. "Yes. Frank's here, baby."
Grace tried not to smirk. "Frank? Daddy, frank?" She choked up more blood.
"That's right, baby. I'm daddy frank cotton."
Grace started to laugh, bubbles popped between her lips. "Your so fucked. If I'm going to hell, I might as well take you with me, daddy."
A second later, nthe bell began, and the bare bulb in the middle of the room flickered. Another chime and he was up, and would have been at both women...but for the voice. It said his name, lightly, as if calling a child to play.
"Frank."
His face dropped for a second time that night. A look of puzzlement flittered across it, and on its heels horror. Slowly, he turned his head. It was the Cenobites.
Frank threw a glance at Kirsty.
"You set me up, bitch."
Kirsty smirked. " No, your daughter did."
"Go, Kirsty. This isn't for your eyes." One of the Cenobites said.
"What about Grace?" Kirsty asked.
"It's far to late for her...go now."
Kirsty stared down at grace, whos chest was rising very slowly. She knew Grace was taking her final breaths. a sob broke through her, she had lost. She turned her back away from grace and walked slowly towards the bedroom door, as soon as her hand touched the handle, Kirsty heard frank coming after her.nshe quickly turned to find that he was standing less than a foot from her.
A hook shot out, sinking into the palm of his hand. The knife fell onto the floor. Many hooks burying into his arms legs; in his back and sides; in his scalp, neck and face. Frank's head is flinged back, yelling.
Kirsty quickly leaves the room. She sees Steve at the bottom of the stairs. Steve rushes and helps Kirsty. Kirsty still has the box in her hand. They move forward but a Cenobite blocks them.
"Don't leave yet." It says.
Kirsty starts to try and manipulate the box. she manages to slot one of the pieces into place.
"Don't..." The Cenobites voice becomes a howl, as it's sucked into the box.
They get to the bottom of the stairs. A Cenobite with dark glasses and carrying a hook. Again, Kirsty manipulates the box. The Cenobites vanishes.
Kirsty and Steve hurry down to the hallway, half expecting to see a Cenobite step into their path. Julia's body is gone from the hallway, a trail of blood leads to the dining room. As Kirsty stumbled, she hears Julia's voice shouting for her.
Kirsty hesitates and looks towards the door of the dining room. There stands the bride, her white dress soaked in blood, her veil covering her face.
"Julia?"
Kirsty takes a step towards her, but as she does so does the veil raises and the chattering Cenobite is beneath. Kirsty puts a piece of the puzzle in the rightful place. The Cenobite disappeared.
Steve heads for the front door and turns the handle. Kirsty realises the box isn't finished.
"Don't." She screams.
Too late. The door is flung open and the Engineer, clinging to the sides of the door.bthey are flung back.nthe box falls out of Kirsty s hand and in the middle between them. Demon and human fight for the box. She grabs the box, it has slime covering the surfaces.
The Engineer moves forward, but the roof collapsed. The last puzzle of the box is back into place.
Silence.
The house is still.
They move to the front door and into the garden. The door closes behind them on its own.
"Where's Grace?" Steve asks Kirsty.
"She's gone..."
"Where?"
"Hell."
