The wind that harried the streets was not warm to judge by the way people drew their collars up their faces down. As Kirsty was shivering, Grace didn't feel the cold. Was it the Cenobites keeping her warm? Or was she frightened and too much adrenaline in her body keeping her warm?
The feeling in her gut was far more ambiguous. She had opened the door - the same door her father had opened - and now she was walking with the Cenobites. And at the end of her travels, she would have her revenge. She would find her father who had almost killed her and make him feel as powerless as she felt. She would watch her father squirm. More, she would enjoy it. Pain had made a sadist of her.
As they made their way along Lodovico Street, Grace looked around for a sign of the Cenobites, but they were nowhere in site.
Both women approached the house. They had no plan in mind; there were to many variables to be juggled. For one, would Julia be there? If so, how involved was she?
"Any ideas?" Grace whispered to Kirsty.
"One." She replied, her eyes glued to the house. Kirsty rang the doorbell and waited.nthebdoornwas answered by Julia. In her hand, a length of white lace.
"Kirsty? Grace? What are you doing here? It's very late."
"Where's daddy?" Kirsty demanded.
Julia frowned. "What's the problem?"
"We would like to see him please. We had an idea about a birthday present for you and we wanted to ask him if it was right before we buy it." Grace said politely with a small smile.
Kirsty didn't wait for Julia to reply, she just barged passed her and walked into the house. Grace walked passed the threshold and apologised to Julia. Julia smiled and closed the front door. Grace felt a chill as she stood in the hallway. She shivered.
"Are you okay." Julia asked.
"Yeah. Im so sorry about Kirsty."
"You look terrible." Julia said plainly.
"You knew we were both here this afternoon." Grace said jumping straight to the chase. Her eyes met Julias. "I saw what happened Julia. I saw..."
Julia raised her eyebrows. "What was there to see."
"You know."
"Truly I don't."
"Let's speak to Larry or...frank then." Grace snapped. "I knew you were fucking my father, I saw everything..." Grace whispered through gritted teeth.
She followed the voices of Larry and Kirsty into the living room. Kirsty and Larry were talking. Larry looked much worse for wear. His flesh is raw and bruised. There's blood on his neck and hairline.
"Jesus...what happened." She whispered.
Larry give her a small smile. "It's alright, Grace. Julia told me everything and it's alright."
Grace shook her head. "No." She said, knowing that he couldn't know the whole story.
Larry spoke up. "You both came here this afternoon, correct.'
Both woman nodded.
"That was unfortunate."
"Daddy, you asked me," Kirsty glanced at Grace who stood near the doorway. "I did what you thought you wanted."
Grace narrowed her eyes. Something didn't feel right.
"You know about Frank then?" She asked, squinting her eyes at Larry and Julia. "What he summoned?" She questioned them both.
"I know enough." Larry replied. "It's over now."
Kirsty frowned. "What do you mean?"
"He's dead, girls." Larry told them.
"What?" Grace hissed.
"Dead?" Kirsty asked with shock.
"We destroyed him, Julia and myself. It wasn't difficult. He thought he could trust me, you see, thought that blood is thicker than water." His eyes landed on Grace.
Grace felt something twitch inside of belly. Had the Cenobites gotten their hooks into her already, snagging the carpet if her bowls.
"I will go to the police in the morning. Try and find someway to make them understand. Did he hurt you both?" Larry asked with pity.
Grace avoided Larry's gaze. "I would like to see his body." She asked them.
"What?" Larry asked in surprise.
"We would like to see his body." Kirsty repeated.
Larry nodded to Julia.
It was warmer on the landing than below, and the air greasy and gray. The door to Grace's bedroom was ajar. They killed him in her bedroom? Grace felt sick, a lump rising in her throat.
A body lay on the floor, in a tangle of torn bandages, still steaming. His neck was broken, head set askew on his shoulders.
Kirsty quickly looks away. Grace stared at the body if her father with satisfaction, she wanted to laugh and celebrate.
"Satisfied." Juslia asked them.
They didn't reply. They stepped out of the room and into the third floor landing.
At Grace's shoulders, fingers stroked the fabric of her shirt. Her eyes shut as a single tear fell.
"You lost." The Cenobite whispered.
"I know." She said in her mind. She opened her eyes and give Kirsty a sad smile. Kirsty understood, her eyes widened in fear.
"No." Kirsty gasped, looking at Grace. Julia looked at both girls in confusion.
"What's going on." Julia asked.
"No." Kirsty screamed.
The bell had begun to ring, tolling for Grace. Kirsty shook her head and quickly grabbed Grace's arm pulling her down the stairs.
Julia followed close behind them. "Where are you going."
When there was no reply, Julia continued. "Don't say anything to anybody." She insisted. "We can deal with this, Larry and me."
Julia's voice had stirred Larry from his drink. He walked into the hallway, he stood at the bottom of the stairs just Infront of the front door. As Kirsty walks passed him, he quickly grabs hold of Grace's arm. Grace faces him, her eyes meet his.
"Julia's right, girls."
"We have to get out." Kirsty tells them.
"Stay with me. Stay for the night." Larry asked.
Julia on the stairs watching.
"It's alright. Really, it is...." He tells them, still looking at Grace. He touches Grace's face, far to fondly.
"I'm sorry, but we cant stay." Grace whispers. She is pulled towards the front door by Kirsty.
"Come to daddy, Grace."
