Grace hummed a tune as she sat on the counter, her legs swinging back and forth. After seeing Kirsty that morning, she was hoping for a busy shift, but luckily it was a quiet one, as schools just started back up. It was passed three in the afternoon and she had nothing to do. Each room in the screen room was clean, the toilets bleached spotless.
She was hoping to talk to her work friend but Matthew had called in sick, but promised boss man that he would do a double tomorrow. So she had no one to talk to. She was lucky that it was a Wednesday that she finished in two hours. Her plan was to lock up and probably meet Kirsty or spy on Julia.
"Grace!" A voice called out.
Grace nearly fell backwards on the counter as she whipped her head in the direction. There was Steve, standing at the counter with a big bow of flowers in his hand.
"Awww Steve, I didn't know you care. Thank You, there lovely." She gestured to the flowers.
He laughed and blushed. "Sorry to disappoint you, there for Kirsty."
Grace pouted like a small child.
"I'm taking Kirsty to dinner tonight. She's had a shit day, I thought I cheer her up. But she handed me her keys so you can stop the night."
He pulls out a spare set of keys and he goes and gives them to you.
"No...I'm going home." She lied.
She didn't want to be the one to spoil a romantic night. She will have to suffer and spend it with Julia. She shuddered.
Steve frowned. "Oh, I thought you was staying at kirsty's?" He asks.
"I was. But since you wanted a special night with Kirsty, you two should be alone. I don't want to hear any bang bang on the wall. Or, you and her moaning in pleasure..." She teased.
He blushed. "Your discussing...but I could take Kirsty to mine...."
"No...you live an hour away...Kirsty lives around the corner....go, have fun, please. Tell Kirsty I will see her tomorrow."
"You sure?" He asked.
Grace forced a smile. "I'm positive. Go."That evening, Grace, Julia and Larry sat around the dining table eating a beef dinner. Candles were set around the room and music was playing a little louder than usually. You would think this was a nice dinner with plenty of chatter and laughter, but it was far from it.
Larry's eyes quickly glanced at his wife every now and then with so much love in his eyes.
Julia happily ate her dinner and poured herself another large glass of brandy.
Grace sat in the middle, her eyes flickering between them. She noticed that watching Larry he wanted to brush his hand on Julia, but she quickly moved it away. Grace noticed Julia's eyes kept sweeping to the stairs every couple of seconds.
Feeling paranoid, Grace felt the hairs on her arms stand on end. She quickly looked over her shoulder and saw that there was no jacket handing on the hook.
"Kirsty popped by today." Julia spoke up.
Grace turned to Julia and she noticed she was already been stared at, with an angry looking in the woman's eyes.
"Oh, good. How is she?" Larry asked.
"Fine. You should know you only saw them the other night."
"Can't a father be concerned for his daughter? We didn't talk much..."
"Why?" Snipped Julia.
"Football was on." Grace told her truthfully. "Liverpool and Chelsea."
"Oh. She called for you, Grace."
"Sorry, Julia. I forget to call Kirsty that I booked a room at the hotel. We spotted Steve and his father on our way to hers. Sorry..." She fake apologised.
"Kirsty and Steve? When did they start dating?" Larry asked in shock.
"Kirsty didn't tell you?" Grace asked looking at the two adults. They both shook their heads.
"When did they start dating?" Asked Julia, getting another brandy.
"The dinner party you guys had." She wanted to leave the room. The way Julia was staring at her worried her. She imagined Julia grabbing the carving knife in the middle of the table and jumping over the table and slit her throat open. Grace shuddered at the thought. "She said she was sorry for waking you up." That was a lie.
Julia forced a smile. Tell her apology accepted. Tell Kirsty I'm sorry for snapping at her."
Grace smiles. "I will."
Larry smiled. "So what are you two planing tomorrow." He asked, cutting into the meat.
"I've got work in the morning till one. Then me and Kirsty are off to dinner at the Blue Oyster bar."
Both adults nearly choked on their food and drink.
"That new bar where men dance with men..." Larry asked.
Grace giggled. "Yes that bar. It's a gay bar, anyone is invited. The people who go are friendly. My friend from work goes there."
"What's his name?" Asked Julia.
"Matthew. He didn't show up at work today, he's pulling doubles tomorrow." She said happily. After dinner, which finally turned out nice. She had Julia laughing, but she guessed that Julia was drunk. It was weird seeing Julia laugh. She didn't dream that night, she slept peacefully. As she started to wake up, she thought she could hear heavy breathing right next to her face.
Sitting up in bed, she looked around her bedroom, her eyes scanning every shadowy corner of her room and saw nothing. But she felt like someone was there. Feeling uneasy, she decided to get up and ready for the day.
Operation to discover Julia in the act of cheating.
She quickly grabbed some cloths and quickly headed to the bathroom. She showered and brushed her teeth and hair. She switched her lip ring for black. Cheek piercings were now lack, well every thing was black. They now stood out against her very pale skin.
Heading down stairs, Larry was heading for work. He spotted Grace and kissed her on the head and shouted bye to Julia.
As he left the house, she heard footsteps coming down the stairs then there was a pause. She could hear whispering, Julia's voice and someone else's. There was no one in the house part from her and Julia. Feeling very sick and uneasy, she made herself an orange juice and grabbed an apple.
She put on her coat and headed for the front door. Julia come into view.
"Morning." She said very cheerfully, with a very wide smile that showed to many teeth.
Grace thought of the movie Stepford wife's.
"Your leaving early."
Grace smiled. "I'm going to get a pack of cigarettes then head out."
Julia frowned. "It's raining." She points out.
"I be fine. Do you want anything?" She asked.
Julia shook her head.
Grace smiled and kissed her cheek. She wanted to throw up. "Bye. I see you later."
