Larry and Julia are sitting on the couch. Larry is watching a boxing match. He's drank several beers: the cans are beside his feet; and there's another in his hand.
Julia is reading a magazine, glancing up at the screen to see the match is getting more heated. Blood is starting to flow.
Larry glances to his wife. "Is this upsetting you?" He asks.
"I've seen worse."
Still looking at her. "Are you alright?"
"Fine." Comes a short reply.
"I can turn it off..."
There's a sudden raising of shouts from the screen, as one of the boxers hit the canvas. Larry turns his attention back to the match.
The light finds its way between the curtains. Frank is watching through the window, his face occasionally washed with light. His hand on the window frame, taps out the same tattoo he's tapped out before. He turns away from the window, and his foot catches the box. It rolls across the floor.
The boxing match is heating up again.
-and now he's in trouble, he's really in trouble-" the commentator shouts.
"What was that?" Asks Larry.
Julia looks up from her magazine. "Probably Grace. She's been working late." She replies.
The violence on the screen is getting horrific, as swollen face bursts beneath each punch.
"No. Something else." Larry stands up.
"Maybe it's Grace. She probably opened her bedroom window. You know what she's like with a storm, she loves to watch the lighting." Julia gets up and crosses to the door. "I will go check on her."
"No. I'll do it."
Larry leaves the living room and starts to climb up the stairs.
"It's Grace, Larry."
Larry doesn't listen to Julia. He reaches the top of the stairs and looks up at the next flight.
"Larry...?" Panics Julia.
Larry turns to her. "What's wrong with you?"
She's desperate to stop him from going into Grace's bedroom. "I hate the thunder." She lies.
He crosses to her. "I'm here." He puts his arms around her.bshe responds. "You're shaking." He hugs her tightly and kisses her. The thunder shakes the house. "There's nothing to be afraid off." He kisses her neck, his hands restless on her.
"Let me check on Grace..." He tells her.
Larry kisses her again. Julia, in order to distract him, she kisses him back. Her passion is artificial but he doesn't register that. He kisses her, much harder this time; a sexual kiss.
"Let's go to the bedroom. I'll make you feel all better and forget about the thunder."
He leads her into the bedroom. He holds her hand as he pushes the door open and turns on the light.
Julia sits on the bed. Larry kneels between her legs, and kisses her breasts, his eyes closed.
Julia glances into the shadows of the room. She senses Frank's presence.
"...oh baby..." Larry whispers.
He starts to unbuttoning her dress. She's distracted by her suspicions; he has his hands against her almost before she realizes what's happening.
Julia looks around the bedroom. The dressing table, the wardrobe and the curtains at the window.
Larry gets onto the bed and draws her against him, kissing her. This is not the intense, slightly dangerous love-making she experienced with Frank, but a fumbling, slightly foolish exchange.
Larry is so wrapped in attempting to make the right moves he doesn't register the fact that Julia's attention is else where.
Neither of them are undressed fully; there's just a tangle of cloths around them which removes any trace of eroticism.
Julia laid stiff, eyes closed. She looks down the length of her husband's body. The door of the wardrobe silently swings open. Frank is watching. She registers horror. Frank steps out of the wardrobe. Julia makes a moan of horror, which Larry takes as enthusiasm.
"Oh baby... I love you..." He mumbles.
Frank stands at the end of the bed. Larry's back vulnerable. Julia seems to realist what he intends.
"...NO..." Julia tells Frank.
Larry barely hears her.
Julia watches Frank pull out his pocket knife from his pocket.
"...NO...No, you mustn't. PLEASE. NO..." She cries.
Larry stops his love-making. He looks at her.
"Huh?"
"Please..." She begs.
"What's wrong with you?"
Julia almost sobbing. "Please. I can't bear it..."
Larry is angered and utterly perplexed at this. He disengages his arms from around her.
Frank is now back in the wardrobe.
Larry rolls of Julia. "I don't understand you...one moment you're all over me, and the next, it's don't touch me...I just don't understand..."
He gets up and leaves the bedroom leaving Julia in bed staring at the wardrobe.
