Shouldve said yes

My fingers are tapping the desk one after the other in a continuous motion as I am looking around at everyone else in the class who seems just about as nervous as I am.

Okay so I'm not the only one.

I was only able to study like half an hour for this test since I was busy finishing an essay I had for another one of my classes.

Counting all the questions that I'm hesitant on or sure that I got wrong just to see what my score would hypothetically look like. Walking over to my pre-cal teacher's desk, Mrs. Jung, felt like weights lifting off my shoulder as I place my test down.

"I'm expecting you did well, right Iseul?" Mrs Jung asked. For some reason this question didn't seem very encouraging or much like a compliment, instead it felt more pressuring.

"I hope so." With a forced tight lipped smile, walking back to my seat.

I've never been happier that the school day was almost over. Slumped in my chair I sat up straight with excitement realizing it was Thursday.

Just one more day and it will be the weekend.

I actually preferred Friday nights and Saturdays over any other day. Just because they are mostly stress free, unlike Sunday's where I'm reminded that I have school the next day.

—————————————

Why is it so cold still it's like the end of march already. I hate how I'm never prepared for these days, it's always sunny one day then freezing the next.

I take out my phone from my pocket and check the time. Oh my god, yes it's lunch. I'm really hoping I have enough money in my backpack I was really craving strawberry milk.

As I'm about to put my phone back in my pocket I feel it vibrate.

Soomin 🩰: Hey girl where are you?

Me:
I'm in the cafeteria just meet me by where we usually go

Soomin 🩰: okay we'll hurry because I have some stuff to tell you!!

I let out a quiet laugh knowing what she was probably going to tell me. Lately she's been crushing on this guy named Lee Heeseung, who's a year above us.

The cafeteria didn't look as full as it usually does which is surprising. I walk over to the vending machines and look for the number and price to put. I can hear the footsteps of someone walk behind me waiting for me to finish getting my stuff.

Are you serious. I'm a dollar short.

I knew I should've accepted that five dollar bill from Soomin when I let her copy my homework this morning.

Zipping the small pocket of my backpack closed I was going to walk away but was interrupted with a tap on my shoulder.

"Yes?" I turn around to face a boy who looked familiar but I couldn't remember his name. I always see him in the hallway when I walk to P.E.

"Here." He says holding out his hand, I look down and see he's handing me the remaining balance of the small pink beverage.

"Oh no it's okay, thank you though." Slightly waving my hands trying to tell him no.

"Just take it, it's not even my money it's my friends." He reply's with a blank expression.

"What? No that even more reason why I can't accept, thank you but no." I give him a small smile and turn around to go to Soomin and I's spot.

I hear a faint "Okay.."

As I'm approaching Soomin I'm still trying to remember what his name is, I think he's in her class so I'll just ask her later.

———————————

"Hey what did you have to tell me?"

"Okay first off, you know Minari? Yeah well she kept bugging me again. Like she does not take a hint, she keeps asking to hang out. I don't want to be around her and her fake friends!" She finishes with rolling her eyes.

I laugh at her complaining and she playfully smacks my arm whining.

"It's not funny Isu! Try having her come up to you every 20 minutes trying to make hangout plans!"

"Why don't you just straight out tell her no?"

"I don't want to be rude" she says frowning in the process.

"Anyways, guess who I saw today!" She goes back to her usual smile.

"Heeseung?" I say already knowing the answer. She starts telling me how she was opening her locker and some papers fell out and he happened to be standing near her and picked them up for her.

"He even offered to walk me to class when he noticed my stack of books!"  She said squealing.

Soomin has been my best friend since 7th grade and we're currently in 11th. We've been there for each other countless times and she's basically like the sister I never had. Well I mean I do have a sister but to be fair she's 6 and is closer with her twin brother. Im the oldest sibling, and with such a large age gap between us I never really felt close with anyone. I never really had friends growing up since I mostly kept to myself.

I'd like to think that she feels the same about me. I know that she has a lot more friends than I do and is friendly with everyone so that's no surprise.

She's also kind of boy crazy, always talking about how much she wants a boyfriend, even though she's basically perfect and has lines of guys wanting to be with her. She wants to wait for "the one" as she puts it. I never really put to much thought into finding a boyfriend, I guess it was just never in my list of priorities.

I started to zone out when she started talking about how one of her classmates knows Heeseung and she was hoping she could put in a good word for her.

Jungwon.

That's his name.

I had forgotten about the little strawberry milk incident earlier but his name just popped into my head. Now that I think about it, I'm still craving it. I really should've just said yes.

Oh well, I'll just get one tomorrow I guess.
