He pulled out the chair from behind me so I could sit down, I thanked him and he took a seat in his own. We were at a restaurant that he said his friends parents owned.
Yujun had told me the ideas he had planned for us to hangout and I agreed. Though this seemed a little coupley, not going to lie. The lights in the restaurant were dimmed and there was other people inside talking amongst themselves.
"Im happy that you decided to come!" He gave me a smile. His smile was nice but I've seen better. Is that mean to say? Probably.
"I'm glad I came too!" The conversation soon died down after that and a silence overtook the atmosphere. It was more of an awkward silence, I was thinking of things in my head that I could talk about.
"What school do you go too, I don't think I've seen you around mine, so I assume you go to a different one." I spoke asking the first question that came into mind.
"Oh I actually go to Seoul university, I'm in my second year there." Oh, I thought he was my age, this kind of feels weird hanging out with someone who's probably three years older than me. I mean we're probably at different levels of maturity. Maybe this is why we couldn't find anything to talk about.
"Oh that's cool, I'm still in high school" I cringed waiting for his response. Thinking he would say something like I was way too young for him or it made him uncomfortable. But he didn't. He just asked where I went.
"Oh no way, I went there!"
"Really?"
"Yeah! I hated my last year though it was so stressful and I honestly didn't like any of my teachers. Have you had Mr. Lang? He would always give me the lowest marks even though I was the smartest in the class."
He started going on about stories from when he was in high school. "Wow, that makes me sound really old doesn't it?"
"A little bit" I joked back.
He laughed and we ate our food talking about past memories. One thing that I noticed is he's one of those people who likes to divert the conversation back to themselves. Whenever I'd say something about myself he'd immediately start talking about himself, almost trying to one up me or something. Is this what people would consider a red flag? I don't know, maybe he's just trying to keep the conversation going.
After a while I gave up and just let him do all the talking, responding with a "really?", or "yeah" every once in a while. I sat there moving my straw in circles, swirling around my drink with my head rested in my hand.
I felt my phone vibrate on my lap and I turn the screen on checking what it was, he hadn't noticed me not paying attention as he was trying to find a picture of him at a swim competition last year. I seen Jungwons contact in a little rectangular bubble on my screen. I started to smile just a little bit, "hey I'm going to go to the bathroom very quick" I told him getting up from my seat and he said okay still trying to find a picture.
I walked to the bathroom, following where the sign was located. I pushed open the door and stood near one of the sinks as I opened the message. I didn't want to start texting someone when I'm with someone else, that doesn't seem right.
