Pain. That was all I felt.

My eyes flew open to utter chaos, I didn't even hesitate. I grabbed my spear and ran, ignoring the pain all over my body and how my vision was blurring and tilting at the edges.

Small bugs or animals were stinging us, that was all I could tell. One moment I was deep in slumber, the next I was thrashing around in my sleeping bag.

I stumbled through the trees and bushes, desperate to get to the stream. Someone, or someone's, followed.

Screams filled the air, there was one horrific scream that came from behind me that ended with a thump to the ground.

But I pushed on. I stumbled and thrashed through the bushes, desperate to get the flying creatures and their stings away from me.

Finally, my leg sunk into the cold water. I submerged myself in the safe haven. The noise cut off, but the pain didn't.

Underwater, my head throbbed. I shut my eyes but the pain would not stop.

I held my breath until I could no longer before resurfacing. There was something definitely wrong with my vision, but I could make out at 2 figures also in the stream.

"Marvel!" One called, it was Clove. But it looked like there were 5 of her. They were blurry, but it was definitely her.

"Clove?"

She stumbled over to me, with what looks like to be Cato behind her.

"What just happened?"

Her face was distressed,

"I don't know! There were the bugs, tons of them. They stung us, and now I can't see straight."

I racked my brain, what on earth could they be? And why would the Game makers let loose these creatures upon us? Usually the capitol wants us Careers to win.

Unless.... It wasn't the game makers.

Wait.

"Where's Marina?"

Cloves eyes widen.

Cato turns and climbs out of the river, we sprint after him. I picked up my spear which I must have dropped on the way.

I knew the truth before we got back to the tree, their limp bodies only confirmed it. I remembered the deafening scream and how it rang in my ears.

Glimmers body was swelled up all over, full of ugly lumps with pus oozing out. A couple yards away I could see the leg of Marina, but I couldn't bring myself to look any closer.

I realise that Cato was no longer with us, I thought Clove was going to say the same thing, but instead she said:

"Where's Glimmers bow?"

I was startled by the question, before I realise what she truly meant. The empty tree above us said everything.

She escaped. Again.
