I didn't sleep that night, how could I?

I lay there, tossing and turning under the covers of the bed until the sun broke over the mountain range.

As soon as the light reached the door, I got up.

The dining room was deserted, all but Glimmer.

She glanced at me before turning back to her breakfast.

I tuck in as well, past years of the Hunger Games have taught us that there won't be a lot of food in the arena unless you hunt it yourself.

The mentors enter the room just as we finish, and escort us to the elevator without a word. Soon peacekeepers join us in taking us to some sort of landing pad where we are forced into some sort of weirdly shaped plane.

Inside, a few spots are already taken. I sit directly across from Cato who is smirking while leaning forward on his knees.

A peacekeeper comes around and injects us with a needle.

The district 12 girl flinches away from the peacekeeper,

"What was that?"

"Your tracker."

Duh. How else do you reckon they know where we are at all times?

The plane takes off, wobbly at first before steaming over the land.

After nearly 10 minutes, we finally land. We each get escorted downstairs where I am directed into a empty room.

Well, aside from the glass tube in the right corner.

Claudia steps through the door and hands me a pile of clothes.

Pants, shirt, jacket, and a pink jewel.

"What's this?" I hold the jewel up to the light, it's vibrant pink colour shines over me.

She shrugs before sitting on the ground.

"From the parade, I thought you might want something to take into the arena with you. The other one, the girl, wanted to take a diamond ring with her. Turns out if you unscrewed the gem off there was hidden poison inside. She got caught of course."

Seriously?

She glanced up at me,

"There was one for you as well... But I thought that you would rather win in your own terms than cheat."

I look down at her with suprise,

I... I didn't think she cared, or even took notice of me. And yet here she is, giving me a jewel to take into the arena.

"Thank you Claudia."

A voice came over the loudspeaker,

Thirty seconds.
