Kyle P.O.V
As she lays here in front of me she looks so peaceful, a complete opposite to what she was an hour ago. Her eyes are closed and her chest is rising softly. I shouldn’t be thinking about her like this, I can’t be looking at her like this. She’s like a little sister to me, I’ve been with her at her top and now I’m helping her through her low.
I turn twenty one in two months. A five year age gap is just too big to ignore when she’s this young, I can’t drag her through this so soon after losing her parents. Maybe when she’s eighteen I can talk to her about it if I still feel the same, it’s a long shot but I’m not dragging her down just because I (think) I love her.
She’s fallen asleep; her hair is falling over her face in soft caramel brown waves. Her pale skin almost glows in the moonlight… What am I doing? I’m trying to remove the temptation without cutting her out completely, I know she needs me.
I walk into the house and grab a blanket and lay it over her, its summer but she will still freeze. I lie down next to her and stare at the stars. “Am I doing the right thing? I'm sure I am” I whisper to myself, attempting to convince myself “If it’s so right, why does it feel wrong?” I roll over, pressing the side of my face into the grass.
I wake up to something itchy against my skin and its moving! My eyes fly open and I see Darci sitting next to me holding a fist of grass, she looks right into my eyes and quickly gets up and runs away laughing.
I run after her, pay back is in order. I catch up to her pretty fast due to my longer legs; I easily pick her up of the ground. “Guess who’s going for a swim?” I smile mischievously. A stubborn frown sets into her face. “No.” I smile and nod; she crosses her arms and keeps frowning but doesn’t fight it.
I go to throw her into the water but unfortunately she dragged me down with her, we both fall awkwardly into the cold, glistening water. We both come up laughing and coughing for air, she tries and pushes me under but she’s too light, instead I push her under. The early morning water is dark and hard to see through; Darci still hasn’t come back up. Where is she?
I look at the water around me waiting to see her shadow swimming past but there’s nothing.
I start to worry, where has she gone? I swim around the river and tread water by the rocks when I feel a heavy weight push me under. I choke on the water; I come back up coughing and gasping for air when I see Darci’s smiling face.
“The look on your face!” Darci is laughing so much she can’t keep herself above water; she sinks under water and comes up coughing, still managing to laugh.
“I’m so going to get you back.” I frown. She pats my face. “Whatever you want to think.”
We get out of the water and we lay in the morning sun, attempting to dry off. “We spend too much time laying here drying off.” I nod and then close my eyes.
