I can hear Noah yelling from down the hallway, I shake my head as I walk into his room, seeing him shaking the side of his cot. “Ma, let me out.” He sticks out his bottom lip and crosses his arms.
“You sound like your from the 1800’s when you call me Ma.” I laugh as I pick him up from his bed. “How far is that?” Noah questions. “It was long before I was born or Grandpa.”
His mouth hangs open, completely shocked. “But you’re so old!” I begin to tickle him, making him yell out to Kyle to save him.
“We are going to have breakfast, get dressed and go over to Grandma and Grandpa’s place to have a party for you!” I carry Noah down and hall and get him some breakfast so Kyle can sneak his presents out of the house to take to Tess and Matthew’s.
“Noah, can you stand still for just a minute? I need to get this jumper on you.” Noah’s bouncing subsides for just long enough for me to get the blue and brown striped jumper on and then he starts running circles around me. “Only God knows what you are going to be like when you’re five! Come on, we can go to Grandma’s place now.”
I jog after Noah as he runs as fast as his little legs will take him, almost falling over about a hundred times a long the way.
“Ma! Open the door please…….!” He begs making me laugh as I open the door and the second the gab is big enough to fit through he bolts through and attaches himself to Tess’s leg. “Grandma!” Tess looks down and pretends to be shocked that he is suddenly there; we both knew she heard the racket the Noah made on the way here. “Noah! Gosh you are looking taller and stronger already.” I leave Tess and Noah in the kitchen and find Kyle sitting on the couch that is framed by an arch of balloons.
“I thought letting Afton loose when organising our wedding was scary,” I sit down on the next to Kyle, his arms pulling me in closer to him. “By the way, next year you can get Noah ready.” I say as I rest my head on his shoulder.
“Was he that hyper?” I can almost see the worried look on his face. “Yeah, I thought I was going to have to call you to come and help me get his pants on, I couldn’t get him to stop moving!” a small laugh slips from Kyle’s lips. “We need to get Blake married that way Noah will have to share attention with some other child for a while.”
I pull the sleeves of my top over my hands, twisting the edge of the material. “I was going to tell you this last night but I got distracted with wrapping presents and dinner.” I take a deep breath.
“Kyle, can you come grab the other side of this table with me?” Matthew asks, Kyle instantly gets up and follows Matthew outside. “Back in a minute okay?” I nod as he walks out the door. “You need to tell him before the party.” I whisper to myself as I walk into the kitchen to see if I can offer any help.
“Darci! Put that bowl down and enjoy your son’s birthday party.” Maia demands as she removes the bowl from my hands. I quickly take the bowl back from her and put it on the table beside me. “I’m going now, come on the bouncy castle with me!” Maia shakes her head.
“What are we going to do with you?” she still follows me out to the bouncy castle. “Hey, I can’t even legally drink yet so I can act immature sometimes.”
“And yet you’re a married and have a two year old son?” I shove her and bolt to the bouncy castle, jumping around like it was my second birthday. “I love how your version of letting loose is acting like you are five.” Maia follows me onto the bouncy castle, looking just as much as a fool as I did.
After ten minutes I had Noah yelling at me for my attention. “Ma! They have cake, Grandma wants to do it now.” I jump of the bouncy castle and pick him up as I ran past. “Let’s have our cake and eat it too!” Noah starts cheering and clapping at the idea of getting something sugary.
