Chapter forty-four - Breaths

Newt's POV

In the morning Nora still didn't wake up. Her skin was paler than before and she didn't look well. If she didn't swallow the soup, things could go wrong. She had to wake up before she had a lack of food. I hadn't left the med-hut for one single minute since Nora got hurt, and I wasn't planning to do so.

Suddenly a small sound escaped from Nora's mouth. I immediately got up and straightened my back.

'Nora?' I walked closer to her. Her chest moved up and down slower than before, was she waking up? Clint and Jeff weren't there, so I couldn't ask them about it.

'Nora?' I asked again. The movements on her chest only slowed down. Eventually, she exhaled and her chest stopped moving.

She wasn't waking up.

'Nora?' I asked again. No movement. Nothing. Not even her chest.

'Clint! Jeff!' I raised my voice in panic. I sat down on Nora's bed and grabbed her lifeless body. She wasn't breathing.

'Nora, come on!' I yelled in tears. She couldn't be dead. She couldn't. She couldn't. She couldn't.

I held Nora's hand, but she didn't hold mine. Her whole body was cold.

'Nora!' I screamed. A tear fell down my cheek. She didn't respond. The only thing you could hear was my heavy breaths and screams.

'Jeff!' I screamed again. Finally, the two Med-jacks stormed into the room. 'She isn't breathing!' I screamed.

Clint pulled Nora away from me and listened to her heart. He didn't say anything.

'Clint?!' I yelled in frustration.

'She didn't make it.'

No... No, no, no, no, no, no.

'Shit!' I screamed. Tears streamed down my face.

'She's dead.' Jeff said.

'No!' I didn't believe it. Nora couldn't be dead. She was strong. I looked at her lifeless body.

I felt hundreds of emotions, but mostly anger and sadness. I needed to do something. Anger rose up my chest. A glass bottle caught my eye and without thinking for a second I grabbed it and threw it against the wall. The glass shattered into pieces as I broke down onto the floor. Knees up to my chest and sobs escaped from my mouth.

The love of my life was dead.
