"I never knew that it could happen 'till it happened to me"
Shit.
Shit. Shit. Shit.
I'm lost and late.
What a great first impression I'll be making. I suppose I can't say punctuality is something I'm good at. They're definitely not going to hire me now.
I'm normally really good with directions, but as the person at the front desk kept saying lefts and rights, they all started mixing together. I thought I had it down and then by the third left turn I was pretty sure I had already messed up.
Obviously I'm nervous. I was expecting to talk with a SHIELD agent, and suddenly at the last minute I get a call letting me know that I will actually be meeting with Tony Stark.
THE Tony Stark.
As in the Avenger, Iron-man.
What he's doing interviewing low level SHIELD applicants is beyond me. But I don't have time to think about that as I look up at the signs of this large building, trying to find some indication of where I'm going. I'm clutching my papers in my hand, knowing there's little chance there will be a sign saying Tony Stark's office this way.
Although I suppose if anyone here would have a sign like that it would be the famously narcissistic Tony Stark.
I should probably ask someone else before I get even more lost. My cheeks are already blushing as I try to think about what's the least embarrassing way of saying "I'm interviewing to be a SHIELD agent but I'm too dumb to find a simple office. How do I find Tony Star–"
I ram right into a hard surface that I would swear was a wall if I didn't see legs in front of me after landing on my ass. My papers scatter all over the floor and I'm sure my face is as red as my sore palms.
"God I'm so sorry." I say, wishing I had paid more attention. I reach out and start bunching the papers together, wondering if I should just call it quits and leave.
The person crouches down beside me, helping to gather my things. "No, I'm sorry. I was rushing out of my office and not checking my surroundings." He hands me a stack of papers and it's then that I finally look up to see who I should avoid out of embarrassment if I end up working here.
A pair of beautiful blue eyes look right at me, catching me completely off guard.
"Holy shit." I gasp out, not being able to hold the words back.
"Excuse me?" the guy says with a chuckle, and it's then that I notice the face that the eyes belong to. And I realize that I just cursed in front of Captain America.
"I'm sorry I was just caught by surprise." I say, nearly dropping my papers once again. I make a move to stand up and find his hand extended in front of me, offering me his help.
"Thanks." I say as I take his hand, embarrassed out of my mind.
"Steve Rogers." he says, shaking my hand instead of letting it go.
"I know." I say with a nervous chuckle, before realizing how bad that sounds. "Not in like a creepy way." I quickly blurt out. "You're just...you know."
He furrows his brow. "Yeah, sure." he says with a smile.
Oh god, that smile. I think my knees are about to buckle. Well, don't just stare at him. Say something, say anything.
"I just know some things about you. Like you're from Brooklyn and born in 1920."
Shut up! Shut up!
