Y/N's POV
"Your autistic ass turns everything into a bigger problem than it needs to be," one of my friends joke, making me laugh whilst also crying.
For context, my water bottle broke a minute ago and I started crying in class because of it. My autism makes it seem bigger than it actually is, but it genuinely bothers me that the only bottle I liked to drink out of is now broken.
However, I'm also laughing because my friends are, too. I don't mind when they joke with me about this stuff, as long as they don't take it too far.
Everyone is currently talking amongst themselves whilst doing the work, so we're not causing too much of a scene, despite me half-laughing and crying at the same time.
Clearly it's enough for Miss Maximoff to notice as she makes her way over to the back of the room, where we all are.
"Everything okay here, girls?" she questions with a raised brow, folding her arms.
"Yeah," I reply, the tears taking over and the chuckles dying down.
It's something so small that can set me off and make me think about every single thing wrong in my life.
"Y/N," Miss Maximoff says quietly, crouching down in front of me. "Do you want a moment in the hall, sweetheart?"
Shaking my head, I cover my face with my hands and try to get a grip on myself.
"Okay. You don't have to," I hear her tell me, she then asks my friends what happened.
They explain about the water bottle and why it's harder for me to accept. Miss Maximoff is fairly new so she isn't aware of my different needs yet.
Once I've managed to calm down, I take my hands away from my eyes, only to see that everyone has left class and it's just me and my teacher left.
"Where's-"
"It's lunch," she cuts me off, a soft smile resting on her lips as she stands back up again and sits in the chair next to me. "I'm sorry that your water bottle broke, honey. I know it's frustrating. Is there anything at all that I can do? I could always order you another and then when it arrives, I can give it to you?"
In shock that she would even do that for me, my eyes widen. No one, not even my own parents, would think of doing that for me.
As much as I want to say yes, there's no way I can accept that offer.
"I couldn't ask you to do that," I reply awkwardly.
"You didn't ask, I did. It really wouldn't be a problem."
I ponder on her words.
The water bottle thing is really bothering me and truthfully, I would love to get another one. My parents won't bother, and now Miss Maximoff is offering. It would be rude not to accept, wouldn't it? Or would it be rude if I did accept?
"Y/N, I can see your thoughts running a hundred miles a minute. Look, I'm gonna buy the water bottle anyway and it will be waiting on my desk when it arrives and if you want it, you can take it. If you don't, leave it. Do whatever you're gonna be comfortable with, my love."
Unexpectedly, the things she's saying brings me to tears again. Never have I experienced an adult being so kind to me, and I have a feeling that I may get attached very quickly.
"I'm sorry for overreacting," I cry, Miss Maximoff simply shuffles closer to me and asks if she can hug me. Of course I immediately say yes and she leans forward to bring me into her arms.
Unlike a lot of autistic people, I love physical contact. Only wanted physical contact, of course. And certainly not from my family. But with my friends or someone else I like, it's soothing. Miss Maximoff is comforting, so I'm enjoying her hold right now.
"You're not overreacting, sweetheart. This is a big deal for you. Please, if there is anything I can do to make school life easier for you, let me know."
