Based on Runaway by Aurora

I saw a face in the sand

But when I picked it up

Then it vanished away from my hands

It's been a year since Mia up and left with no explanation. No note, phone left, car gone. Next thing Connor knows, she's half way across the world with a new boyfriend and a new life.

Currently, he was at his hotel room in Calgary since they play the Hitmen tomorrow night. He closed his eyes only for a moment to try and shut his brain off. But a familiar face made it's way into his vision. Mia?

His hands reached out to touch her. As his hand was about to meet hers, she disappeared. He realized it was all a hallucination and that he wasn't truly seeing her. She was still in Australia, and she was still with Landon.

And I was running far away

Would I run off the world someday?

Nobody knows

Nobody knows

After opening his eyes and shaking his head to try and rid himself of the memory, he decided to just sit in his hotel room. He was deep in his thoughts after the image that would now haunt his mind. What did I do wrong? Could I have done something better? Was I not around enough? Did she tell me anything? I didn't miss her birthday, ri-

"Yo Connor!" A voice said, snapping him out of his thoughts. The player looked up to see Alexander Suzdalev standing in the doorway, trying to get his attention.

"Sorry. What's up?" Connor asked.

"What's up with you? For the last year since Mia's been gone, it's like you've fallen off the face of the Earth." He mentioned. "You have thrown your entire life into hockey, even during off season. During off season you're supposed to have time off of hockey, with maybe a bit at odd times."

He was right. Since Mia left, he's dedicated his life to hockey. I mean, I guess he's been dedicating his life to hockey since he was a kid, but that's besides the point. He's gained a massive following since the World Juniors where they won the gold medal, but it's so much pressure. That's probably one of the reasons he dedicates everything to hockey. But nobody knows.

For a moment I thought you were here

But then again

It wasn't true

The Pats and Hitmen are on the ice for warm ups right now and Connor only has one thing on his mind. Mia. Ever since earlier today, she's all he could think about. Stop, Connor. Focus on the game ahead.

If the Pats won this game, they clinch a playoff spot. They need this, and as the captain, he needs to lead the team. Connor needs to lead them to victory.

For one moment, he thought she was here. Connor thought his Mia had come home. But she didn't, and it was all a lie.

Now take me home

Take me home where I belong

I got no other place to go

The Pats and Connor won the game and got a playoff spot. It was a couple days later, and they are home in Regina after spending a couple extra days exploring Calgary while they were off for a few days.

But the truth is, it doesn't feel like home. It never has since she left. Some may say that Connor should be over Mia by now and that he should know she won't come back. But he held a slight, very slight, bit of hope.

He hopes she'll come back, and he hopes he can return home. She's all he has..had. She's all Connor Bedard had.
