Summer Time - Hughes Brothers

SKYLAR'S BACK BABY

"Lukeyy" I whined as I flopped into his arms on the couch. We had been out all day at the beach and I was really tired. He tightly wrapped his arms around me as I cuddled into him.

"What's wrong bubba?" He asked me as I dug my face into his neck and he paused whatever he and the guys were watching.

"I'm tired." I pouted and clung onto him more. He stood up with me in his arms as we walked upstairs and into his room. My eyes lit up. "Sleepover? Pleaseee" I begged him and he smiled in return.

"Of course." Luke said. He then knelt down to my height. "How about you go get changed and I'll say goodnight to the guys alright?" I nodded and ran to my room.

Luke's POV

I chuckled and shook my head as Sky ran to her room. I walked downstairs and saw the guys sitting on the couch talking amongst themselves. Turcs noticed me first and was the first to say something.

"Y'all having a sleepover?" He asked me. I nodded as a slight smile found its way to my face.

The guys absolutely adored Skylar. They're basically like her older brothers, other than me and our actual older brothers. 

"Not gonna lie I'm kinda jealous she asked you and not me." Jack said from the other side of the couch, Quinn pointing in agreement.

"Not my fault I'm better than you guys." I muttered a few quick 'good nights' before running upstairs before Jack got to me.

I changed into a pair of shorts and set up a small blanket fort. I heard light footsteps waddle down the hallway and I turned to see Sky walk in. She jumped onto the pile of pillows in the fort and cuddled into them.

"Goodnight." I whispered, kissing her forehead and nose. She smiled and kissed my nose.

"Night night." She said. I got flashbacks of when she was first born as I watched her cuddle into the blankets and pillows.

*July 31, 2016*

Me and Jack are coming home from hockey practice with Quinn because mom said that she and dad had a surprise for us when we got there. I was practically bouncing in my seat as I wondered what it was. When we got home I grabbed my bag, sprinted into the garage, dropped it and ran inside.

"LUKE YOUR BAG!" Quinn yelled behind me. I waved him off and continued on my journey.

I took my shoes off and walked into the living room where I saw my mom and dad looking down at something. I was obviously confused and walked up to them.

"Mom?" I questioned. My dad waved me around the couch and I gasped. "Is that?-"

"Skylar Ashton Hughes. Your new sister." Mom replied with a smile. She held her out to me with a raised eyebrow. "Wanna hold her?" She asked me and my face lit up.

I picked up Skylar - Sky, Sky's cute - like she was thin ice that would shatter the minute something touched it. Anyone notice how I used ice instead of glass cause yk, hockey? No? Anyway. She was so precious and I knew right then and there I'd protect her with my life.

*July 30, 2023 - Present*

I remember that day like it was yesterday. Seeing her tiny face for the first time and vowing to protect her. I spent the next few years all the way up to now holding myself to that vow. I layed down next to her and fell asleep.

*July 31, 2023*

I woke up before Sky did and walked downstairs to where Ethan and Jack are passed out on the couches. I flicked Jack's head and forced him to help me make Sky's birthday breakfast so mom could sleep.
