_____________
Y/n's POV:

I awoke this morning feeling as if I hadn't slept. My now conscious body loathed the light facing it through the window. The window.

There was a note on the window.

I opened the bottom panel, steadying myself on the ledge to reach the top, there the note had been sloppily stuck on with a piece of tape.

Oh. My. Titan.

It must be Hunter! I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried sick, and I'd be a liar if I said it hurt that he didn't contact me (unless he was unable to).

Furthermore, he couldn't have been more obvious with the secret codes in his messages. He wrote them in darker color and capitalized them irregularly, still, the discretion was intriguing.

I scanned over the note and grabbed a pen an paper, writing all the letters that's were improperly capitalized.

Cafe Tomorrow Two AM, I was ecstatic. He wasn't dead! A knock on my door snapped my mind out of bliss, as I shoved the paper in my notebook.

I opened it to a face which I couldn't pinpoint my feelings on. I was loyal, of course, but still conflicted. Belos's mask was straightened on his face with his cloak clean, yet underneath I could make out heavily disheveled hair. He must've been worried about Hunter. That's really sweet, and I feel horrible not being able to say anything. Well. Why couldn't I? He'd want his uncle to know right?

"Y/n, we should probably talk, hm?" He asked as he stepped in. "Yes of course, anything you need sir." You knelt before him. "No need for formalities, thought I appreciate them so much," he spoke in such a genuine tone, validation flowing through as he continued. "I'm so proud of how you've been helping the coven and the aisles, so young and yet such a prodigy. It's hard without the Golden Guard here, though, yes? I'm sure you've noticed, you're quite observant, hm? I've always enjoyed that about you, knowing things yet not pestering about them like all the others; so annoying." He praised, gifting you a light pat on the head.

Unsure of what to say, you rather chose to answer the question he asked previously. "Well, yeah, he didn't come back from his mission. I was told he went missing and there was a search party for him, and truthfully sir if we aren't being formal I have a question. Why couldn't I go? He's my boss and significantly impacts my career, I-... I could've been a valuable asset to the search." You looked down, hoping he wouldn't take it the wrong way. You wouldn't want to seem as if you were doubting or much less opposing his decision.

Well, honestly you were. It was so stupid in your mind, you knew him much better than any of those guards searching. You knew what his favorite places to escape kidnappers might be, or maybe clues he'd left during his capturing! He was captured right? Of course, he wouldn't just leave. Maybe for a secret mission? No, he would've told Belos first.

"Sweet Y/n, you're a smart child, I'm sure you can understand my process. Consider yourself Golden Guard number two; I of course couldn't risk a backup being unreasonably lost. Don't put all your Griffin eggs in one basket, yes? However, as you've said before, being honest, I'm tempted to believe that the relationship between the two of you has grown past that of jobs, and that's what's frustrating you." He said, allowing the answer to you. "No sir, me and Hunter try our best to remain strictly professional." You replied, instantly noticing your mistake, but knowing going back to fix it would only call more attention to it and just help him notice easier.

Too bad.
He noticed.

"Hunter, hm? Well you were bound to know at some point, I'm disappointed but it's alright for now. So, who told you he was missing?" Belos asked. You quickly answered; "Darius, I overheard him talking about it. I truly shouldn't have payed mind to it, but you hear what you hear, you know?" You we're getting nervous, you said you'd been told it but now you're saying it wasn't really told to you. Remembrance of Darius's add on about how it was supposed to be a secret was now coming back to you. You messed up.

It was just a little white lie, right? Yes. So you stuck with it and moved on. "I thought I should show you something, sir," you moved to a more formal tone as you pulled out the note. You showed it to him, as well as the paper where you'd written the secret message. "Thank you for telling me, Y/n. How about this, you go to the cafe, and the rest of us will wait outside while you talk, in case anything happens, and then if it's safe you bring him out and we go home, can you do that?" He asked. "If it's safe?" You questioned. "Well, assuming he was taken by kidnappers, we wouldn't want them to sneak in, and if they were holding him hostage in there we wouldn't want to overwhelm the situation to prompt any violence." He explained. You confirmed with him that you'd do it, and he took the note away with him in his exit.

Something about the interaction didn't sit right with you. He was always so generous with his compliments to you, but this was much more than usual. Still, you appreciated the validation. The things he said made sense, but there was a terrible feeling in your stomach. You pushed it down assuming it was just you worrying about Hunter.
