Back in Time

Chapter 10

The air was cool, almost peaceful. But Fairy Tail knew it wouldn't be for long...Another attack was coming soon, they could tell.

The waited all night for the attack to come, some staying awake while the others slept to regain their energy.

Natsu was one of the people who stayed watch, he wanted to make sure that everyone was safe. If they were attacked in the night, and nobody was watching, he would surely blame himself.

With him were Gajeel, Gray, and Laxus. They all chose to stay up, which was surprising because everyone knew that Gajeel was still upset...about what happened to her...Levy.

It had only been a few weeks since she died, and he had tried to stay strong. But Natsu knew he was in pain, lots of pain. Gajeel's wife died...and he was lost without her. He knew that he would stay up at night, just crying, thinking what he did wrong, and why he couldn't save her...

The night came and went, and just when they thought they weren't going to attack, they did. Without a sound, they had managed to get close and now they were running towards the camp at full speed. They four man hurriedly woke up everyone and soon they were all fighting.

They ones who stayed up were tired, barely able to fight, but they did so anyways.

A huge beast hovered over Natsu, ready to attack with his huge claws, and he had barely enough energy to stand. Something blocked the hit for him, more like someone...Lucy...

Natsu bolted upright, covered in cold sweat and eyes quickly filling with tears. He didn't care that it technically never happened, it was still painful.

"It should have been me." He cried, letting the tears flow freely from his eyes.

The door to his room suddenly bursts open, revealing a sleepy, blue cat. Happy. "Natsu~" he says lazily flying to his friend, "What's wrong?"

Without warning, Natsu pulled Happy into a huge hug, crying into his soft, blue fur. "L-Luce" he sobbed.

Happy, now understanding why he was so upset, continued to let the boy hug him.

Approaching the guild hall, the two were silent. Natsu and Happy hadn't gotten much sleep last night. Natsu kept waking up, crying about the horrible nightmares he was having, and Happy was trying to be a good friend. Eventually, Happy learned how Lucy had died, or at least some of the story. All he got out of the hours of sobbing was 'It should have been me' or something along those lines.

"Natsu, are you ready?" The two were brought out of their thoughts by the commanding tone of a red headed armor mage, Erza.

"Uh, yeah." He shakily replied, hoping nobody would notice. Feeling a hand on his shoulder, he turned and came face to face with the source of his sadness, Luce. He swore he could have cried right then and there, but he couldn't, they would question him.

"You okay?" She asked, full of concern. He took in a breath, trying to make his voice more stable.

"Yeah, I'm all fired up!" He tried to be cheerful like usual, but he was failing. Luckily, nobody noticed.

"Alright then, let's get going." Gray cooly stated as they began their journey.
