You lay on your back, staring at the television across from your bed as your girlfriend traces invisible patterns on your stomach. The credits of whatever movie you were watching roll on the screen in front of you, and you turn to your girlfriend and smile. “What are you doing?”

“Nothing, she smiles, rolling over to face you. “We should probably start studying.”

“But, I don’t wanna,” you whine. “I wanna stay like this.” You wrap your arms around her, forcing her to stay where she is.

“C’mon, babe. Your dad should be home soon,” she says, knowing that you still haven’t come out.

“Fine,” you groan before giving her a quick kiss. “But, you owe me.”

“Of course. Now help me with my chemistry.”

You giggle and move with her to sit on the floor. “Alright, so these two can’t react because silver is more reactive than-”

“Look at that, I did teach you something,” your dad interrupts, as he pushes open your bedroom door. “Hey, (Y/girlfriend’s/N),” he greets, seeing your girlfriend, “Keeping my daughter in check?”

“Always.” She smiles and wraps an arm around you. “You know how difficult she can be,” she teases.

Your dad laughs. “Oh, I know. If you need anything, I’ll be in my lab.” He closes the door behind him as he leaves.

You release a breath you didn’t know you were holding. You knew you had nothing to be scared of. He obviously liked you, and it’s not like he ever made an remarks to make you feel uncomfortable with your sexuality. You were just worried that he’d be disappointed that you weren’t living the life he always thought you would.

(Y/G/N) runs her fingers through your hair, pulling you out of your thoughts. “You okay?”

“I guess. Anyway, the two can’t react because-” you begin before being interrupted by your girlfriend. “You’re not okay. Talk to me. Please.” She whispers the last word, feeling helpless.

You lean against her, causing her to wrap her arms around you. “I just-I don’t like lying to him, and I know he won’t be upset, so I should just tell him, but-”

“It’s okay. You don’t have to tell him if you aren’t ready.” She kisses the top of your head. “It’s okay.”

You look up at her. “Can you stay with me tonight?”

“Of course. Let me let my parents know.” She pulls out her phone, texting her mom that she’s going to stay with you for the night, before wrapping her arms back around you. “Alright. I think we’ve done enough studying. Get back in bed.” She helps you into the bed, wrapping a fluffy blanket around the two of you. She pulls you into her chest, running her fingers through your hair.

“FRIDAY,” you call, your voice muffled by her chest, “Play Mamma Mia.”

(Y/G/N) moves so the two of you are facing the screen. Your legs are still wrapped around hers and your head still resting on her chest but now pointed toward the screen. Just as she moves to kiss your forehead again, your dad knocks on the door, pushing it open as he does so. “You two still doing, oka-What’s wrong, (Y/N)?” He frowns as soon as he sees your tear-stained face. “What’s wrong, sweetie?”

(Y/G/N) moves away from you, allowing your dad to hold you. “What’s wrong? Talk to me, baby.”

The two of them look at you expectantly, waiting to see how you will answer.

“(Y/G/N) and I are dating,” you manage to choke out.

Your dad gives you a confused look. “That’s what’s bothering you? That’s all?”

You nod. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry.”

“No. No. Sweetie, you have nothing to apologize for. I don’t care who you date, as long as they make you happy. Besides, I kinda already knew. I saw how happy you get whenever she’s around.” He kisses the top of your head and ruffles your hair before standing up. “But now that I know you’re dating, I do have to scare her a bit. So, Miss (Y/G/N), if you’ll follow me out, I have some things I’d like to discuss with you.”

She laughs but follows him out. As soon as he shuts the door, you instruct FRIDAY to listen in.

“I hope you love her as much as she loves you because if I see one tear caused by you-”

“I know, Mr. Stark. I would never even think of hurting (Y/N). You have a wonderful daughter that I love so so much.”

Your heart swells when you hear her say that.

“I’m not entirely sure what else to say. I thought I’d have to give the whole ‘if you make me a grandfather, you die’ talk, but um, I guess I don’t have to worry about that. Oh, hang on. FRIDAY, I know (Y/N) is listening. Could you stop that for me?”

You frown and sit on your bed, waiting for them to come back in.

“Eavesdropping isn’t polite,” you father says as they come back in.
