The gang had you running all around going to club after club. Tony was the only thing that kept you going. He went everywhere with you, and it finally felt like you two are a normal couple. You’ve always wanted to have a night on the town with him but you’ve always had to stay away from people that could recognize Tony. Not that you want the world to know yet, you stay away from people’s cameras but it wasn’t as hard as you thought it would be.

Tony was amazing the whole time. He secretly bought you a drink when you wanted one alcohol or not. Pulling you off to the dance floor he danced with you knowing that you love to dance whenever possible. You have no idea how many times he has caught you dancing around the houses.

Now back at Tony’s everyone is climbing into pajamas as you slip into a pair of Tony’s shirts and sweats. Finding Tony in the living room with popcorn you curl up to his side and Tony adjusts his arm around you. Pretending to be stealthy you pop a piece of the popcorn in your mouth.

“Who said I was sharing?” Tony jokes. “Popcorn thief.”

“I have no idea what you are talking about.” You try to play coy but you fail at keeping your smile at bay.

The sounds of the gang flow down the stairwell as they join the two of you. Only stopping for a moment they see your bodies curled up together and they awkwardly shift on their feet. Recovering they take seats around the room discussing what to watch. The guys want an action movie while the girls wanted a romance, though you end up deciding on Three Men and a Baby a perfect comedy.

Resting your head against Tony you get comfortable and dive into the popcorn bowl. Receiving a kiss on your forehead you can’t help but smile. This is your favorite part of the whole day being curled up with the man you love, not that you’ve told him yet since the reunion. Through the years commitment has been a sketchy topic with Tony and you were never sure if he meant it when he told you that he loved you too. Though with how things are going you think you’re heading down the right path.

Leaning his head against yours you feel your eyes start to slip. Tony’s hand rests against your thigh and his finger draws patterns against the fabric. Feeling his warm touch through the sweats leads you closer to sleep.

“Hey man I don’t mean to offend,” Carson speaks to Tony. “Do you ever think you shouldn’t be with (Y/N)?”

“What do you mean?” Tony tries to stay quiet for your sake but you can feel tension in his voice.

“You know… you’re a genius.” Gabby joins in.

“And you’re a L.A./New York guy.” Jake finally speaks. “You breathe extravagant, and (Y/N) is more simple.”

The way he accents “simple” indicates it is anything but a compliment. You hear a collective agreement from everyone in the room but Tony. His grip on your thigh lightly tightens before quickly loosening. Tony obviously believes you to be asleep and would hate for you to wake up and hear what they are saying about you.

“Wow.” You feel Tony lightly situate in his seat. “We have been so nice to you being here. I know (Y/N) cares about you guys but I have such a hard time tolerating people that don’t respect her. Honestly you all haven’t tried to actually know who she is. (Y/N) is my rock, she keeps me sane but oh my god she is so much fun. She is the only person I have ever met that can be both.”

You try to not break your composure hearing Tony defend you. Most of your life you believed yourself to be boring because everyone had you assume the responsible role. The only person you’ve been able to be 100% yourself around, both crazy and responsible, is Tony. A surge of gratitude and love flows through you as you continue to listen.

“The real question is ‘should (Y/N) be with me?’ She has been amazing and understanding of my many issues. Commitment hasn’t come easy, I don’t like people getting close to me but (Y/N) has a habit of breaking every wall I had. What has she gotten? I’ve been awful. The whole I became more distant the more she learned about me until I completely pushed her away by choosing someone else.” You feel a tear fall on the top of your head as you feel your heart break for him. “I am not innocent in the way I’ve hurt (Y/N) but you guys aren’t either. So don’t you dare ask me if (Y/N) is good enough for me. Ask if we are good enough for her. Cause I don’t think we are.”

Just as you are about to open your eyes you feel Tony trace something against your thigh once again. This time it is not a flower or a pattern but a series of words. Zeroing in on Tony you make out what he is telling you, ‘I love you.’ He traces the words on you three times before sending a lingering kiss on the top of your head.

Lifting you in his arms Tony starts to carry you towards the bedroom. Before disappearing down the hall Tony tells them to feel free to stay up and inform them that the car is available all hours. His voice mirrors a generous host but you can hear the firmness in his tone to leave you both alone for the night.

Settling your body under the covers Tony climbs in next to you. Wrapping his body around yours his chest rests against your back and his nose tangles in your hair. Your arms rest safely against his and you use this opportunity to your benefit. Using your finger you write ‘I love you too’ against his skin three times like he did on your thigh.

“How much did you hear?” Tony’s raspy voice fills your ear.

“Am I too simple for you?” Your shoulders curve in, knowing the answer.

“Sweetheart everything about you is radiant. You’re anything but simple.” His lips press against a small sliver of exposed skin of your shoulder. “Am I enough for you?”

Feeling your heart break once more, you hear the pain laced in his question. Tony has gone through so much. Never being accepted by his father, not feeling directly a part of the team, the trauma from missions over the years, and so much more. Tony saw his walls as a way to not only protect himself but others. He always thought he was a time bomb ready to explode or have someone else flip the switch, maybe he still does. You’ve always been able to see who he really is under everything he threw at you, and now you see how awful he feels about it now.

“You aren’t enough.” You feel Tony stiffen. “You are everything, and I love you.”

“I’m never letting you get away ever again.” He whispers. “I love you too.”
