Warnings: Unsupportive friends
Light invades your dreams as you slowly return to consciousness. Opening your eyes, your senses are overwhelmed with memories. Instantly panic makes you jump upward in the bed and you place your head between your knees. Remembering your friends are here you can feel your heart start to race faster and your breathing thin.
“Shhh,” Tony’s hand rubs circles over your back. “Calm down, come here.”
Falling back into his arms you feel your lungs start to expand. Tony’s hands run along the length of your arms expelling any shivers from your system. Warmth radiates through your body but your mind continues to race. On most days you don’t want to listen to their drama, and you definitely do not want to talk to them about yours. You find life being their friend so much easier if you only listen to them and keep your life to yourself. They never listen to your life outside of theirs anyway.
“Do I have to go out there.” You burry your face in Tony’s shirt. “Can’t you just sedate them and transfer them back home.”
“While that is quite an idea.” Tony kisses the top of your head. “I thought it was about time I met your friends. Perhaps one day your parents.”
“Parents may be a long while. Doubt they would be okay with the age difference.”
“But I have the heart of a kid.”
You can’t help but laugh a little. It is true, and one of the many things you love about him. His fingers play with yours as they tangle and untangle from each other. Turning your head slightly you watch and pretend for a moment that this is it. That you can stay in bed all day and talk to no one but Tony through hushed tones and playful touches.
FRIDAY interrupts the innocent silent moment with an update on your friends. They are awake, confused, scared, and asking many questions. Tony tells FRIDAY to notify Happy to take their guests to the kitchen. He insists that they can have anything they would like, the fridge fully stocked.
Groaning you get up and take a quick shower. Half of you expects Tony to join, or at the very least talk to you from the other side of the shower door. But Tony remains in his room giving the space you actually need. Feeling the warm water wash away the last bit of drunkenness you wish you could disappear down the drain as well. You try to think of what to say, how to start, what they will say, if Tony should come in with you or wait a few minutes, etc. Turning off the water you get ready as best you can.
Back in the room you find Tony offering a pair of his sweats and a t-shirt you used to love. The best part of having a boyfriend, other than the boyfriend, was definitely wearing their comfortable clothes any chance possible. Smiling you accept the clothes and disappear once again into the bathroom to slip into the “barrowed” pair of clothes Tony may or may not get back.
“God I missed you in my clothes.” Tony wraps his arms around your waist and places a kiss on the tip of your nose.
Offering him a smile you ask for him to stay in the hall as you talk to them. Without putting up a fight Tony agrees, but makes you promise to call for him if you need him. He knows how your friends can be at times from what you have told him and doesn’t want you to face them alone if you don’t want to.
Walking into the kitchen you keep your hands buried in the pockets. All sense of an appetite has instantly diminished but you will not survive the day without breakfast. Knowing this, you stack three pancakes on top of each other and drown them in syrup. Grabbing four glasses from the cabinet you get the milk out of the fridge and fill each one. Tony places his glasses in a weird spot far away from the ridge but closer to his stash of alcohol.
“(Y/N) where the hell are we?” Carson speaks first. He sounds just as annoyed from last night when you said your parents were staying with you.
“L.A., Tony Stark’s house.” You shove some pancakes into your mouth. There is no point in beating around the bush.
“Yeah right,” Caroline steps up next. “Where are we, really?”
“Tony Stark’s house.” Your voice mumbles while swallowing. “He was my boyfriend. Was? Is? I’m not sure at the moment.”
“Mr. Stark would like you to know that he is if you are willing to take him back.” FRIDAY’s voice comes out of nowhere.
Everyone in the room besides you jumps as her voice fills the room. You tell her to make sure Tony knows that you plan to keep him on his toes for a while. Taking a sip of your milk you try to steady your voice. In all honesty you almost don’t care but you know Tony is in the next room and they could spill this secret to the whole world in the blink of an eye.
Taking a deep breath you start from the beginning. About how you two were in a relationship for quite some time and were happy. You choke back tears when retelling the night that Tony told you he was getting back together with Pepper.
“A decision I regretted the moment I made it.” Tony storms into the room to defend his honor.
“As I was saying,” you shoot him a playful look before continuing. “I drunk called him last night because I was depressed and lonely and missed him. My message scared him so Tony sent Happy to get us and here we are.”
The group just sits in silence. Occasionally they will stop glancing at each other and peer over to Tony. Of whom made his own plate and is now sitting next to you. He laces his fingers with yours and kisses the top of your hand before digging into his eggs with a fork in his other hand. Scanning the room you really wish you could read everyone’s brains, particularly Tony who is acting the calmest.
Returning your focus to your breakfast you scoop up more of the fluffy, syrup-soaked pancakes and consume them in your mouth. Some excess syrup drips down your chin and before you could grab a napkin you feel Tony’s thumb mop the sticky solution from your skin. Extending his thumb to your lips you roll your eyes at his lame attempt to keep you from worrying about your friends.
“Umm, we were wondering.” Gabby interrupts the silence. “When will we be able to go back home?”
“Let me get this straight.” You put your hand on Tony’s knee hoping he gets the hint to stop. “You find out your dear friend was miserable last night, that she was the one never thought to date has been in a relationship with a genius billionaire playboy philanthropist. Knowing what I did and not giving me the third degree. Plus you’re in L.A. but all you want to know is when you can go back home?”
Tony’s voice never raises. He only sounds hurt and defensive, something you should be feeling right now. You’ve known your friends all your life, their behavior is nothing new to you but it is to Tony.
Your friends look at you like they want you to say something. They want you to defend them instead of Tony, instead of yourself. The whole situation is completely ridiculous. If they want to go home then they can go home. You? You want to stay here as long as possible.
Getting up, you place your dishes into the sink and start to clean. You focus on the sound of the water, the touch of soap decorating your hand. Feeling everyone’s eyes on you but none at the same time, the need to shrink begins to overwhelm you.
“Tony, could you please arrange a way to take them back?” Hearing a quiet agreement you thank him before leaving the room and escaping back to his bedroom.
