Eliza stares out the window of the room, lost in her thoughts. She didn't hear the knock nor did she hear the footsteps of the person. She was lost in her thoughts, sulking and overthinking about everything that had happened a few hours ago. She was thinking if she made the right decision if what she did was right if her decision will hurt someone.
A hand on her shoulder snaps her out of her thoughts. Elizabeth jumps at the sudden contact. She looks back at his father standing there with a pained look. She gives him a sad smile to ease him which didn't work.
"Dad, I am okay" She says quietly. Hunter shakes his head in denial and hugs his daughter. Elizabeth blinks at the sudden gesture but nonetheless hugs him back. Hunter close his eyes, feeling different emotions taking over, sadness, fear, pity, emotions all these were messing with his head.
"I am so sorry, sweetie" Hunter whispers, trying to control his emotions.
Elizabeth's eyes become teary when she hears him say that. A tear comes down her cheek and soon, they started to pour out of her eyes.
Flashback
"Would come to my pack, Eliza?" Edward questions. Elizabeth stills at the question. She couldn't believe what she was hearing.
Can she leave her family after all they did? Can she leave her siblings? Will she be happy? She doesn't even know her mate. Will he treat her right? Millions of questions were running through her head.
Edward waits for her, for her to answer the question. He knew it was a tough choice but he is really hoping she will say yes. He wants to be with her now that he has found her. He wants to take her to his pack and claim her.
But deep inside, he knows what she will say. He can hear his mate's thumping heart but he doesn't comment on it.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth was lost. She wasn't sure what to say. She loves her family but her newly found mate has already made a special place in her heart. Elizabeth's wolf yells at her to go with his mate but Eliza's heart said no. All the memories of her sweet times flash through her mind.
She looks at her mate, "No" she whispers lightly, scared if she says loudly her voice would break. Edward nods and gives her a small smile, shattering her heart.
He takes a step forward and takes her hand in his. He kissed her head and says, "I will come soon"
With that, he runs off into the forest, leaving his mate confused and broken.
Flashback over
"Dad?" Elizabeth whispers. Hunter hums.
"Will he really come back?" She questions. Hunter looks down at her daughter and gives her a smile.
"Of course he will sweetie. You know that this is the tradition. You're such a beautiful girl, he won't reject you if that's what you're afraid of" Hunter says.
Elizabeth nods and starts recalling her memory when her dad told her about the tradition.
"Whenever you will meet your mate, he will ask you if you want to join his pack right away. If you say then you become official mates right then but if you say no then he will have to prove himself worthy of you. And sweetie, remember this never feel ashamed of yourself if you say no. Even your mother said no to me at first. the tradition of asking for permission to join a pack as a mate is one that is taken seriously among wolves. It is a way for the pack to maintain order and ensure that only the strongest and most compatible mates are chosen. So don't worry at all."
That's what father said. Elizabeth smiles at the thought and hugs her father again.
