In the middle of the week my bodyguards arrived and my freedom was gone. I hadn't even had much freedom because of detention and cleaning duty but now, for sure, I wasn't going to have any freedom. Unless I found a way to escape from them, which was highly unlikely.

By Tuesday I had finished all my detentions but doing one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon for two days.

I was in my last few minutes of detention and decided I was curious as to  to why Jody was in there in the first place, so I asked.

"Apparently bullying is okay but sticking up to the bully isn't," he said.

"I'm gonna need more detail than that, bud," I said. Jody sighed and shook his head, then he leaned forward and began to speak.

"At dinner a few days ago, before you arrived, Nicholas, the 'popular' kid, was making fun of Ellie, a quiet kid who's actually very nice, and I was not having it so I walked over to his table
and—" the teacher made a loud and long "shhh" sound as she glared at us. Jody leaned back but once she looked away he continued from where he left off.

"I grabbed his arms and held them behind his back as I smeared his face in the pasta the chefs made for dinner. His friends didn't like that though and so they beat me up. They're over there. Guess what?" He asked. I nodded for him to continue. "They have less time than me."

"What." How could they beat him up and have less time? All he did was smear a kids face in pasta. Unless he's lying about something, which wouldn't be too crazy knowing it's Jody.

"So is Nicholas his real name or does he go by Nick?" I asked irrelevantly before he could attempt to answer my nonquestion.

"He goes by Nick but I call him Nicholas to be more intimidating," he said with a wild grin. "Like one time when he was in a jolly mood he said 'hi Jody! And I said 'hi Nicholas.' Sh*t like that is hilarious."

"So is he actually a bad kid?" I asked.

"Oh yeah, real bully."

"Then why would he say hi to you?"

"To try to make fun of me? I don't know, some people are weird."

I laughed and soon after Jody and I began passing notes instead of talking because passing notes was way more fun and interesting. By the time detention was over for the afternoon, we had a whole conversation about toasters and an old movie about a woman who threw a toaster into the bathtub with her newly wed husband laying in it.

Jody and I walked out together.

"So, now that your body guards are here, are they going to watch over you all the time or something?" Jody asked.

"Pretty much."

"Even when you're sleeping?"

"Yep."

"That sucks."

"I know."

"Well, wanna try to hang out with us on Friday night? Also we're having a game night tomorrow in our secret little room, have you ever seen it?" Jody rambled on about the room and what it looked like, what it smelt like, I don't think there was anything he didn't go over. When he was done ranting about it he asked me again if I wanted to go.

I smiled and nodded.

"I'll have to think of a way to drop the guards though," I said as I bit my lower lip.

"That'll be easy. Don't worry about it I'm a master at shaking people we don't want," he said with a shrug.

I stared at him in both amazement and horror.

"What have you been doing with your life?" I asked. He grinned and nudged my side with his shoulder.

"That's a story for a longer day."

"D*mn right it is," I rolled my eyes. All Jody did was laugh and shrug as he and I walked to our dorms.

Once we got to the path that split the boy and girls dorms, we said our goodbyes and separated. Sonya wasn't in the room so I assumed she was studying in the library and grabbed some of my own school stuff to join her.

I stuffed everything in my small school bag and made my way to the library as it began to sprinkle. Why was it always raining here? I missed the summer weather.

By the time I was inside the building I was soaking wet and uncomfortable but I pushed through, I had a change of clothes in my bag I could change into. Once I made it to the library and open the heavy wooden door my heart dropped when I didn't see Sonya.

I searched all the tables for her and walked past every shelf. When I found her on a computer in the corner of the second floor my heart finally returned to the spot in my chest it was supposed to be in but I still had a bad feeling.

"Hi, Line," Sonya greeted as I joined her at the table. Line was a nickname she had given me that had rubbed off on everyone else. Everyone Sonya knows, knows me as Line. It makes me smile.

"You're drenched," she pointed out.

"Hi, So," I answered sarcastically. Sonya giggled before getting back to work on her computer.

"I know," I responded after greeting her. "I'm putting my stuff down and running to go change," I said.

"Anything you need?" She asked me as I unpacked all my things.

"Nope, I got it," I said. She smiled and nodded.

Once I returned from the bathroom in new clothes we studied together for hours and once we were finished we walked back to our dorms and talked for some more time.

"Jody invited me to your 'secret little room'" I said.

"Oh yeah?" Sonya chuckled.

"Yep but did you see the bodyguards? They got here this morning and I haven't been able to shake them since," I said.

"Yeah, they make you look cool as f*ck," Sonya answered.

"Not helping," I glared at her.

"Sorry," she laughed putting her hands in the air for a moment before shutting the lights out.

"Jody can help you with the guards," Sonya said after a moment of silence.

"That's what he told me to," I said. "He still hasn't told me why he can shake someone so easily."

"That's probably for the best," Sonya laughed.
