Jody and I meet up with the group in our hangout room and I tell them all about the "other girl" who was able to get into me and Sonyas dorm.
I show them the note I found and all their faces harden.
"Who would write that?" Sam asks.
"I think it was the girl who got in before me, the police didn't find anything like this when they fist went in and looked so it's the only answer," I respond.
"Why?" Rowan asks.
"They want her to know they're coming for her," Levy responds with an eye roll. "Should we tell someone about this?" He asks.
"Absolutely not," I say. "If the headmistress thinks I'm in danger she'll call my mom to pick me up. I don't want to go."
"Okay, scratch that idea."
"You said whoever put the note in there is coming back, right?" Jody asks. I nod. "Then we should camp out behind your dorm to catch and interrogate her."
"That's probably the smartest thing you've said the whole time I've known you," Mateo says with a lighthearted smile. Jody smiles back.
It's too soon for laughs though. Our friend died today and this is us trying to avenge her. In our defense though, she would be mad if she knew we refused to laugh on the day she died.
"Okay, we should only send a few people or we might get found," Levy says. We all agree. "Who wants to go?" He asks.
Everyone raises their hand.
"I think Adeline shouldn't go. They obviously want to kill her too so it wouldn't be smart," Sam says.
I want to agree but I can't. I want to beat the sh*t out of whoever sent me that letter.
"I agree," Daniella says.
"Okay, Adeline your staying here," Levy orders.
"But—"
"No. We're not gonna fight over this. Go."
So I do. I sit down in the couch and watch as they choose who will go to my dorm to capture my secret hater.
"Okay, Hayden, Rowan, and me," says Levy. "Everyone else can stay here." Hayden groans as he gets up from the window seat, he was the only one who didn't raise his hand.
"All boys? You think the girls can't handle themselves?" Daniella snaps sassily.
"No, I just don't want any of you getting hurt." Levy, Hayden, and Rowan make their way to the door.
"I hope you break a bone," Daniella yells to them as the door shuts.
Sam, Daniella, Jody, Mateo, Noah, and I all begin creating an interrogation room. We shut and lock all the windows and assign spots for each person to sit in front of each window or door so the girl we capture can't escape.
Once the room is ready we sit in the couch, now crammed in between other furniture in the corner of the room, and wait.
When the door finally flies open, we jump up to help. The girl has a brown paper bag over her head and she's struggling to break free. Noah walks behind them as they walk the girl to one of the two chairs we left out for interrogation. Jody shuts the door when everyone is inside. One single light is on. The one above the girls head.
The room is silent ignoring the grunts comping from the girl, who is now being tied to the chair with a rough rope.
"Who is it?" Mateo asks.
Levy shakes his head sadly.
"Who?" Mateo asks again.
Levy walks over to the girl and removes the bag from her head.
"Mattie?" Sam says when she sees who it is. Sam and Mattie were the best of friends before Mattie and Abby both left because of the Sonya incident.
"Mattie how could you?" Sam asks getting closer to Mattie.
"Shut up! your so annoying. Such a baby about everything. Get over yourself, your not fooling anyone with the innocent act."
Sams eyes begin to tear up. "I thought we were friends.."
"No, we weren't. I could hardly restrain myself from yelling at you every time you talked."
Sam begins to cry, she walks away from Mattie, out of view.
"What the h*ll?" Levy says in an annoyed voice. He follows Sam.
The rest of us surround Mattie. I didn't get to know her that well, she was always hanging out with Abby or Sam and hardly ever talked to anyone else, so her betrayal didn't really hurt me.
I pull out the note and shove it in her face. "Why'd you write this?" I ask.
"Why do you think, Blondie?" She asks spitting in my face. I back away to wipe the spit away.
"Was it to scare me? Make me think I was in danger?" I ask.
She rolls her eyes. "Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't." She shrugs.
BANG!
The chair hits the ground. Hayden pushed it over. The side of Mattie's face hits the ground hard. When the chair is pulled back up, her ear is bleeding.
"What the f*ck was that for!?" She yells. It's a good thing this room is soundproof.
"Answer the questions," Hayden says with an angry expression.
Mattie rolls her eyes. "Yes. We wanted to scare you." The second she answers she looks around nervously as if she said something she should and was hoping we didn't catch on.
Oh but we did.
"We?" Daniella asks, stepping into the light. "What do you mean, 'we' ?" She asks. "Who's 'we'?"
Mattie goes quiet.
This time, Hayden doesn't throw her chair to the ground. Instead, he gets a small pocket knife and puts it under her nail. When he starts to pry the nail of, Mattie screams.
"Okay, OKAY!" She screams. Hayden doesn't stop. "PLEASE! Tell him to stop!" She begs.
"Answer. The. Question," Rowan demands.
"Abby and I, we've been sent to spy on you, Adeline! Please, stop him."
Hayden stops. He looks at us for a sign to continue but all of our faces are blank.
Two of them.
Sent to spy on me.
