2. Baby Joy

Cleo's P.O.V

I stay quiet as I stand next to Mckelty. She keeps her eyes forward, and doesn't say anything to me. I go to Julian and Mckelty's closet, open the door, and pull out a couple of pillows.

"How could you just leave us like that?" Mckelty asks, I keep quiet as I bring the pillows to the bed.

"Please, don't start this. You need to stay calm, otherwise it could put you and the baby at risk." I set the pillows next to Mckelty, then turn away from her.

"Then tell me, what happened to make you leave. When you stopped responding to us, we all thought you killed yourself, cause we know that was your plan if Declan hadn't come to save you, and it was still the plan when you and Declan had those two really bad arguments. So, tell me what happened." Mckelty fiercely exclaims. I feel myself begin to tear up, I hold the tears back and shake my head.

"I felt weak, everything was happening so fast. It was like I couldn't catch my breath. I needed to get out, to be on my own for a while, until I felt strong enough to return." I say with my back still turned to Mckelty. I hear her gasp, then hiss. I turn and see her holding her stomach. I walk over, and sit on the bed next to her. Taking her hand, I intertwine our fingers and she begins to squeeze my hand.

"What made you come back, or was I the only reason?" Mckelty says through clenched teeth. I stroke her hair and let her squeeze my hand until her pain is gone for the moment.

"I was planning on coming back soon, I thought the baby wouldn't be here for at least another week, that and it's Parker's birthday tomorrow." I state, Mckelty nods as her face smooths out.

"What all happened in the woods? We heard a lot of commotion a few days to almost a week after you left." Mckelty recalls, I look down at our hands and let out a shaky breath.

"Must have been those that were banished or exiled from the pack. I only ever left my safe place in the morning, when I knew they wouldn't be watching the perimeter." I say, and hear Mckelty gasp, I look at her and see her clutching at her stomach.

"Where are Julian and Parker with the nursing team?" Mckelty hisses as she squeezes my hand, I watch as a tear falls down her face. I take my free hand and wipe the tear from her cheek.

"If they don't get back here soon, I might as well be the one to check you." I sarcastically retort, Mckelty looks at me with surprised eyes.

"I forgot they made you learn how to check dilation, when a new baby would be born." Mckelty expresses, I nod my head, shaking her head, Mckelty let's go of my hand.

"That one was two and a half minutes less than the last one." I note, Mckelty moans and shakes her head.

"I'm not going to ask you to do it. You had enough of that in the old pack. Plus, wasn't that used as a way of torture for you?" Mckelty asks as she readjusts herself.

"It'll come in handy at the moment." I mention and shrug my shoulders. Mckelty shakes her head, then takes her free hand and runs it over her stomach, stroking the top with her thumb.

"Kel, come on. It seems like Julian and Parker are taking their own time, with trying to get the nursing staff here." I exclaim, she looks at me with tired eyes, then leans her head back on her pillow.

"Alright, fine." Mckelty says, as she grits her teeth together and hisses.

"Looks like you may be almost there, considering this contraction is happening not even a full three minutes after the last one." I express, then feel Mckelty squeeze my hand as hard as she can.

"You'd better check fast, then. There's gloves in the first aid kit, at the top of the closet." Mckelty exclaims, then relaxes. I release her hand, go to the closet, then pull the door open, and grab the first aid kit from the top shelf and a sheet from the middle shelf. Swinging the closet door closed, I walk into the bathroom, grab a handful of towels, then walk back to the bed. Mckelty shimmies herself out of her pants and underwear, I drape the sheet over Mckelty as she brings her knees up toward her chest. I quickly open the first aid kit and put the gloves on.
