Declan's P.O.V.

It's been about Twelve hours since the loss of our baby, I've stayed close to Cleo and haven't left her side. I numbly open my eyes and look down at Cleo sleeping in my arms, her hair lightly sticking to her tear stained face, we both stayed up, cried, and grieved late into the night. I kiss her forehead, then curl myself closer into her, and mindlessly place my hand against her stomach. My eyes go wide, as I feel what seems like a pushback against Cleo's stomach. I shake my head, then lay it back down next to Cleo's.

As I try to fall back to sleep, the pushback happens against my hand again, Cleo slightly adjusts herself as she sleeps. The pushback happens two more times, then I sit up and pull my phone from my pocket, and dial one of the last people I talked with yesterday.

"Declan?" Cleo softly asks, I look to her, lean in and kiss her forehead.

"Son, is everything alright?" My mother answers her phone. I keep my eyes on Cleo as I speak.

"We need you up at the hospital, something other than the loss has happened. We need you to check on it." I explain, my mother hums for a second.

"I'll be on my way in just a moment." My mother quietly says, then hangs up. Cleo tightens her grip on my arm, and I take a deep breath as I look at her.

"Declan, what's going on? What else happened, other than what happened last night?" Cleo lowly asks, I take my hand off her stomach, grab her hand, then place it on her stomach, with my hand on top of hers. The pushback happens immediately, and Cleo's eyes go wide, and tears begin to fall down her face.

"It can't be. It can't, the doctor said I would feel phantom movements, after what happened. They won't stop, until— until the baby is removed." Cleo tearfully says, I hold her tighter, and look toward the monitor and see it's turned off.

"Which is why, I want my mother to check you. I trust her knowledge and expertise on this over the doctors. Something doesn't feel right, and I want an honest opinion. Not one riddled with bad news and deceit." I explain, Cleo looks up at me, and her eyes go wide slightly.

"You think someone is crossing us, and working with the rogues?" Another pushback against our hands happens, and Cleo's eyes fill with new tears.

"That's exactly what I think. Which is why, my mother is coming, and will check you out herself. If the baby is indeed still alive, we'll have to go along with the story of it not making it last night. Not only to keep us safe, but also the baby as well. Do you think you can do that?" I watch the sadness in her eyes turn to pure determination, she nods and I lean in and kiss her forehead.

"Whenever I'm allowed to leave here, do you think it would be possible to stay at the vacation house for a couple of days? I don't feel as though I'll be able to be around everyone in the manor." I give her a small smile, then wrap my arm around her shoulder and lightly pull her close to me.

"Yes, we can definitely take a few days away from the family and stay at the vacation house. I know it'll be hard at first, but with time, we'll figure this out." I keep up the ruse that the baby is gone, hoping Cleo will understand, Cleo looks at me with desperation in her eyes, and lightly nods her head.

"Your Majesty, it would be in everyone's best interest, if you let your daughter-in-law rest, she went through a most tragic ordeal yesterday and needs her rest." The nurse says at the door.

"It will do you well, to not tell me what I should or should not do. I know what's happened to her, I went through something similar. Now, I suggest you go back to doing your job, which is caring for other patients on this floor. Mr. Callahan, boys escort this nurse away." My mother fiercely instructs, I watch as Julian, Parker, and Axel all surround the nurse and lead her away from the room. My mother enters the room, closes the door, and draws all the blinds closed, so no one can see inside the room. I get off the bed, but stay as close as I can to Cleo, I take hold of her hand as my mother stands in front of us.
