When Talia opened her eyes the next morning, something had changed. It was the light. It was still the gray-green light of a cloudy day in the forest, but it was clearer somehow. She realised there was no fog whatsoever veiling her window. The girl jumped up from her seat at the end of her bed to look out the window and groaned in discomfort. A fine layer of snow covered the yard, dusted the top of the cover she had for her motorbike and whitened the road. But that wasn't the worst part; all the rain from yesterday had frozen solid - coating the needles on the trees in fantastic, gorgeous patterns, and making the driveway a deadly ice slick. She was graced with balance but how was she expected to get to school when it was dangerous to even think of starting her bike on an unsteady road like that?
Jacob had already left the house before Talia had even managed to pull herself out of bed. She got herself sorted and pulled some clothes from her wardrobe. Talia dressed herself in some dark blue jeans, a long-sleeved t-shirt and a zip-up jacket. The girl arrived downstairs into her kitchen with her bag and placed it on the table before finding her phone. After a few minutes of waiting for Bella to pick up the phone, Talia had basically screeched down the line asking if Bella had seen outside, claiming she was going to die if she left the house. Being the hero of the hour, Bella had agreed to pick her up and give her a lift to school.
As she waited for Bella to finish sorting herself out and come pick her up, Talia took a seat at the table with a bottle of water and searched through her bag for one of her many pens. Her search came up useless because she had somehow lost all of her pens which originally sat at a mere total of Four. But when she pulled her hands from her satchel, she was holding onto a folded peice of paper. It took Talia a moment to recognise it as she unfolded it and read through the neat writing. Jasper had told her Five things, easy...give me five weeks ma'am.
A smile graced Talia's face as she moved to put the note into a draw which was usually filled with random things which had been thrown in there over a long period of time. A beep sounded from outside, scaring the life out of Talia as she grabbed her bag and keys before leaving the house and carefully making her way to the passenger side of Bella's truck - which seemed to have no problem with the black ice that covered the roads. The girls held small conversations as Bella made sure to drive slower than usual as to not leave the actual road.
When they arrived at school, they both climbed from the truck and Talia stayed near the door on her side as she rummaged through her bag. Bella had moved around to the back of her car, staring down at the wheels - her father had gotten up before her and put snow chains around the wheels. She was standing at the back of the truck doing God knows what as she messed around with something Talia couldn't see as she spared a quick glance at Bella.
Talia was startled by a loud screeching sound and looked up to see Edward racing towards the car beside her, when she turned her head she watched a dark blue van which was skidding, tires locked ans squealing heading towards her friend. Talia didn't think before she dropped her bag at her feet and raced around the car as fast as she could to move Bella to her right and position herself so she was blocking the van heading towards them from touching her. Talia managed to brace herself from any incoming impact and winced when she felt a force nocking her and Bella down. However it wasn't the force she expected, because it came from another direction. She heard a small bump and let out a small sound as she hit her head on something. Something was pinning her and Bella to the ground, something cold and hard. The girls were lying on the pavement behind the tan car Bella had earlier parked next to.
Talia didn't have a chance to notice anything else as she wrapped her arms around Bella and pulled her head further into her chest so nothing could hit her, but the van was still coming towards them. It had curled gratingly around the truck and, still spinning and sliding, was about to collide with the pair again. A low groan made Talia aware that someone else was with them, and the voice was unrecognisable to her ears. Two long, white hands shot out protectively infront of them, and the van shuddered to a stop a foot from Talia's back, the large hands fitting providentially into a deep dent in the side of the van's body.
