Abhimanyu parked his car in the Birla mansion just past 12 AM. Exhausted he leaned his head back against his car seat, as he closed his eyes to momentarily compose himself. What was he doing? He'd never worked this much in his entire life. He'd never worked so many hours. He'd never worked so late into the night.
And somewhere he knew why too.
It was because of her.
He was not intentionally trying to avoid Akshara but every time he faced her, he felt his stomach tie into knots and all sorts of funny feelings overcome him. He couldn't make sense of any of it.
The number of times he'd come home to find her sleeping and he'd find himself staring at her, feeling his heart thud faster than it ever had before.
He'd almost announced himself crazy a few days ago when he'd found himself caressing hair away from her forehead and gently caressing her cheek. He had not done it consciously he was sure.
He just didn't understand it.
What the hell was going on?
All he could focus on lately was her doe eyes and the rose scent she carried.
And not to mention how difficult it was to sleep next to her at night. He'd taken countless cold showers to compose himself and just one look at her sent him back to where he was originally.
She'd been endearing before.
Adorable.
Downright attractive.
He'd always known this.
But ever since she was his wife.... he couldn't put his finger on it. But it was as if she was the centre of Earth.
The centre of existence.
He was sounding insane and he knew it.
Frustrated, he threw his head back.
That's why he'd started working even more over time. Throwing himself into his work and busying himself so he had no excuse to focus elsewhere.
He took in a deep breath as he grabbed his stuff and headed out of his car, locking it behind him. He smiled at the guards before heading into Birla Mansions. He was of course expecting to be met with pitch darkness given that it was past midnight now.
However, he stopped in his steps when he witnessed that the lights in the dining room were still on. Furrowing his brows, he headed straight to the room thinking that someone may have accidentally let the light on.
Turning to the hallway, however, he stopped when he was met by a sight that pinched his heart in every way possible.
There lay Akshara, with her head resting against the table with two plates in front of him. In front of him were dishes of chole bhuthare and kheer. His favourites! He spied Akshara's untouched plate as guilt slowly consumed him, realising what had happened or at least having a sneaky suspicion.
He heard footsteps behind him as he slowly turned around to note one of the staff members.
"Arre Sir... you have come... Akshara ma'am had cooked for you today" Ramu Kaka, one of the staff members told him.
Abhimanyu's eyes shot up, she had cooked for him? He clenched his fists tighter as guilt completely consumed him, realising one by one that not only was she waiting for him to have her dinner but she had also cooked all of his favourites.
Suddenly he felt physically and emotionally sick, what kind of cruel human being was he?
"Has she eaten at all Ramu Kaka?" Abhimanyu croaked, pain visible in his voice.
"No Sir... she came home early from work and was cooking for you... and has not eaten since" Ramu Kaka replied.
Abhimanyu clenched his fist but nodded as Ramu Kaka took his leave, leaving the two behind.
Consumed with guilt and anger, Abhimanyu pushed his hair back as he took a seat next to her examining her angelic face. She looked so at peace sitting there and he couldn't help but push the hair that was falling on her face away.
He looked down at his phone and noted the text messages that had come from her, asking what time he would be home for dinner. He had given her a generic response at the time, not realising that he'd immersed himself so far into his work and not at all thinking she would cook for him.
She had cooked for him.
Abhimanyu took a deep breath, trailing his finger down her cheek softly not being able to help himself as he slowly whispered "Sorry....I'm so sorry", his face overcome with emotion and pain.
He had to do better. This wasn't fair.
Just because he was confused about the new emotional feelings that had overcome him, Akshara deserved better. She was completely selfless, he had known it since the day he had met her. She never asked for much. She just spent her time spreading happiness. And so he knew she would never complain about him working over time... about their marriage.
But this wasn't fair to her.
He felt his stomach tie into knots as the guilt slowly overcame his system, what the hell was he doing? Running away from Akshara just because of his own complicated emotions.
Sitting up in his chair, still focusing his gaze on her, Abhimanyu had decided.
He would do better.
And then he turned his attention to the food that lay in front of him, he had not eaten dinner because of how involved in his work he had gotten.
Although he felt guilty eating when he knew she had not had anything to eat, he couldn't let any of her hard work go to waste. He had to tend to the beautiful food that had been made for him.
The beautiful food his wife had made for him.
