Akshara woke up the next morning to the sound of her daily alarm clock buzzing her to wake up for work. Groaning she hid her face deeper into the pillows and then realisation hit her. Wait a minute... pillows?

The last she remembered she had rested her head on the dining table waiting for Abhimanyu to come home for dinner. Confused, she scrunched her eyebrows as she slowly sat up in bed and rubbed her eyes.

Looking over to his side, she noted that his side was empty and neat, and clean. As expected, he had already left for work

Yes, she was in bed alright.

Sighing, she took a deep breath as she sat up in bed trying to avoid the aching pain in her chest. She hated to admit it but Abhimanyu not showing up last night had really hurt her. She already knew that their marriage was different... but him not even being able to show up to a meal that she had desperately spent her day making had somewhere really broken her.

She knew that maybe she should have mentioned it to him... but how could she when she was doing her best to act casual and low-key? Like he had requested.

Shaking her head she crisscrossed her legs as she pushed the painful thoughts out of her head and rested her back against the headboard.

How the hell had she gotten to bed?

Shrugging her shoulders, she turned to her side table to get a glass of water when she paused. On her bedside table was a note and a cup that was covered by a small plate.

She picked up the note and read it curiously,

"Good morning,

I've left a bowl of fruit salad on the side and there are some fresh pancakes in the kitchen with pancake batter in the fridge if they go cold. Please don't go to work on an empty stomach, you haven't eaten in 18 hours.

P.s. Thank you for the most delicious chole bhature and kheer I have ever had - don't tell Ma that. Hope the pancakes are somewhat digestible.

Abhi"

Akshara gasped, staring at the note as she ran her fingers over it. Gasping, she took a couple of minutes to process his words.

Automatically her eyes found their way to the bowl of fruit salad that lay on the side. Slowly, she processed the note she had read, trying to pace her beating heart.

Overwhelmed, she sank back into her bed and she closed her eyes trying not to let the rush of emotions overwhelm her.

She knew he was just being kind. He had always been kind.

She knew he probably had felt guilty and was trying to repay her.

She knew it didn't mean much.

But she couldn't help it if even this small act sent her into a spiral of feeling giddy.

Alarm bells from her phone broke her reverie all over again, as the second alarm reminded her that it was indeed time to get ready for work. Sighing, she swung her legs over the side of the bed as she forced herself to get up and get ready for the day.

Turning around she eyed the fruit salad, reminding herself of an important message.

She couldn't miss breakfast today!

Akshara got up from her desk as her assistant informed her that she had just seen the last client of the day. Smiling, Akshara sorted through the papers on her desk as she updated her calendar. Anyone who knew Akshara knew exactly how much she loved her profession, music therapy integrated her love for music and her interest in science and being able to work with other people.
