Akshara walked into their bedroom where she saw Abhimanyu who was sitting in their bedroom facing their balcony. He had changed into his nighttime wear but his fists were still clenched indicating that he was still angry and ruminating over the events of the night.
She shuddered at the sight and then gazed down at her hands, noting the first aid kit she had picked up. Her heart hurt so much as exhaustion from the night threatened to overcome her.
Shaking, she walked up to him slowly, not maintaining eye contact as she simply came and stood in between his legs. He looked up at her instantly.... perhaps had felt her come in before he had even seen her. He gazed at her with so much intensity that she was convinced she was going to melt into a puddle before him.
Sighing, she avoided his eyes as she opened the first aid kit, she dabbed some betadine cleanser on a cotton bud before grabbing his fist and gently cleaning the bruises that lay there. Slowly she worked through it while all the way he continued to stare at her as if he was caught in a reverie.
Before she knew it, she was done with his knuckles before she moved her way to his jaw where Akash had tried to throw some jabs to try and defend himself. She pressed gently against it. She noted the small bruising that was forming and the red cut that was visible.
Before she knew it, tears had started to well in her eyes as she processed what had happened. He had gotten hurt. Because of her. He'd had people question his behaviour. Because of her. His reputation had been affected because of her.
Abhimanyu's gaze changed for the first time when a teardrop of hers dropped on his cheek and he realised she was crying. He felt her tremble and his entire heart broke.
Not being able to help himself, he cupped her cheek softly and made her meet his gaze when he noted how her big doe-eyed eyes were teary.
"Why are you crying?" he whispered as gently as he could, wrapping his other arm around her waist and bringing her petite frame forward. He'd always known she was tiny but being this close to him made him realise how petite she truly was. He could wrap his whole arm around her.
She shook her head furiously as she closed her eyes shut tight.
"Akshara..." he whispered, his heart hurting at seeing her upset. Not caring about the boundaries he'd intended to draw in their so-called 'civil partnership', he put away the swab and betadine bottle back in the first aid kid and then made her sit on his knee, making her wrap her arms around his neck so that they were both close and her legs were dangling in between his legs.
To hell be it with this partnership he'd tried to enforce, right now his wife needed him and he needed her.
"Akshara... please... please tell me... I can't see you like this" he whispered lifting the bottom of her trembling chin so she was looking at him.
"Y-you" she began, taking in a deep breath trying to stop her tears. Why was she so emotional? "You got hurt because of me... Mahima Aunty's party was ruined because of me."
And his heart instantly broke.
His innocent, too good for this world Akshara.
The Akshara that he had known for what felt like forever but wasn't long enough.
Even now she was thinking of others.
He brought her close to him, ravelling her in a hug realising she needed to be hugged. Hugged tightly.
"You didn't ruin anything... nothing at all.... I am not hurt... guys like him need to be taught a lesson one way or another.... chachi is glad she will not have to work with spoilt assholes like him" he consoled her, rubbing his hands up and down her back just like she had done to him when he was having difficulty controlling his anger.
He broke his embrace and looked at her, gently cupping her cheek again, "I'm sorry did I scare you?" he asked gently.
She shook her head, letting the silent tears stream down her face and a few seconds later she threw her arms around his neck again, holding him close to her so that every part of her body was touching his. And Abhimanyu let her, relishing the embrace.
She needed her husband.
They both did their best to avoid the electricity that was shooting up every part of theirs as their desires clearly grew in the matters of mere seconds.
Letting herself catch her breath, she rested her head on his shoulder and he closed his own eyes, catching his own breath.
They broke apart again when the heat and intensity of the moment got too much, realising they were walking on a fragile thread.
Akshara looked awkwardly at her hands, avoiding his gaze again. "Woh - I- thank you..." she said, "thank you for defending me".
"Akshara" Abhimanyu said firmly, lifting her chin so they were making eye contact again, her still seated on his lap and his other arm sliding around to rest on her thigh.
"I want to make one thing clear... you are my wife... my honour... my pride... mine. I don't care if this is not a normal 'marriage' or a partnership... whatever the case... you are still mine. And people commenting on what's mine, I won't ever tolerate it. More than that, disrespect to women, I won't tolerate it." he told her firmly.
And in that moment, Akshara swore she fell for the man in front of her even more as she felt a glimmer of hope light up in her chest. Staring at him with her eyes dazed in love, she dared herself to ask the question to her heart.
His, she was his?
He had said so right?
She was his.
His wife.
She smiled at him, tears rolling down her face as she was overcome with emotions.
"Arre... you're still crying" he groaned, wiping away her tears gently with the back of his hand, caressing the hair that had fallen over her eyes.
She giggled as she wiped them away quickly, "these are tears of happiness" she told him, leaning down and pressing a warm kiss to his cheeks to which he instantly closed his eyes, relishing the feeling.
And when he finally opened his eyes, she noted that his eyes twinkled making her giggle again.
Slowly she got up from his knee, their bodies instantly missing each other's touch. "Don't push it Akshu... this is enough romance for today... you have been dreaming with open eyes..." she chided herself slowly.
"I'm just going to get changed" she informed him, turning around to head to her cupboard when she was stopped by her dupatta.
She frowned, it felt like her dupatta had gotten stuck
She turned around to see where her dupatta had gotten stuck only to notice that he was holding it.
Raising her eyebrow, she questioned him curiously.
"Can...can I hold you tonight?" he asked nervously as he gazed intensely at her with his brooding beautiful eyes. Her eyes widened instantly. "I promise.... I just want to hold you... I can't sleep with you being at a distance"
Oh love.
Just when she thought he couldn't get any more perfect.
He was surprising her.
She smiled tearfully at him and just shyly nodded before running to the bathroom with her nighttime clothes leaving a bashful Abhimanyu Birla behind.
There you go... hope it lived up to your expectations! One of my favourites because of how pure they are. <3
