Chapter 52
Kabir
'I am sorry we couldn't save your child'. Words rang in his head continuously. My child. Our child. Child that was killed even before he was born. Even before his father knew he had one.

Shame filled him. He couldn't even save him son let alone his wife. He jerked and sat up straight. Its been a week. A week since chitra last woke up. A week since the death of his child. A haunting week. He couldn't even sleep as nightmares surrounded him. He couldn't eat nor he could sleep all he could do was stare at chitra's motionless face that has been in the same position and hadn't moved an inch. Niraj forced him to go home because he said he stink.

Why didnt chitra tell him? He would have tried harder for him for them for their family. What would he say when chitra asks about him? How would he face chitra's mother? How would he even face himself. Shame and anger blinded him. His child died in from of his own eyes and he couldn't do anything. He couldn't save neither his wife nor his child. His child didnt deserve this. He felt like he didn't deserve her too. He didnt deserve any of the happiness chutra gave him. He was a rude merciless jerk he kill people for fun. He didnt deserve an ounce og happiness.

He climbed down the stairs in a hurry and reached the basement. He ripped his shurt apart and took out a whip and smacked himself. Skin slapping sound echoed through the room followed by one the another and another and another. His flesh burned and the wounds that were recently starting to heal opened. Crimson liquid poured down his body and formed a pool near his legs.

It hurted a little but not more than his heart was in pain. He continued slapping himself with tears streaming down his face. He closed his eyes and forced himself to bear the pain but chitra face flashed before him, he groaned a bit but didnt stop and then a beautiful picture flashed in his mind. Chitra carrying a toddler in her arms as he played football with the other two in his backyard. He quickly opened his eyes. The pain he felt was unbearable. He threw the whip and picked uo whip with thorns and whipped himself. He let out a blood curling scream and continued the abuse.

Niraj came to check on kabir but found the whole house empty just as he was about to leave he heard a blood agonising scream. Ran to find where it came from. As soon as he reached the basement his eyes widened. Kabir filled in the pool of his own blood and whipping himself continuously abusing the wounds that were just healed.

He ran towards him and stopped him, kabir's crues filled his ears as he broke down on his knees and cried to his hearts content. Niraj sat beside him listening to his every sob. It was the first time he was seeing kabir cry after his dad died. But now here he was crying and begging to god for forgiveness.

His cries were so painful that even niraj had tears in his eyes. He couldn't hear him anymore, he hugged kabir tightly and rubbed his back. It was too painful for him to hear anymore.

"I dont deserve her". His voice echoed

11 months later.
The wind blew stronger than ever, as if trying to take her away from him. All he was left was her memories all he had were her memories, which he kept closer to his heart he looked at the sky and the cloudless sky stared at him back as he stared at him for a while before drifting his eyes back to the glass walls of the cafe.

Kabir stared at the cafe longingly as if he was expecting her to come out any moment. But even he knew she was never coming. The kids of the poor women to which chitra helped, scanned the café with hope in their eyes. Praying that she will give them food as she always does but its been forever since she last came. But she was the only hope for them. Everyday they waited for her longingly hoping she will come and enlighten their day. But now will he tell them that she was gone. And that she is never coming back. With no answer he entered the cafe bought some food to give it to the poor lady.

He handed her the bag and she smiled at him gratefully. Her child did a little happy dance hoping that this meal will water their fire for food forever.
"She is never coming back". He told her crushing the small hope she had but he knew he should tell her. She cant wait for her forever.

Crushing the small hope she had he started to walk off but her words made him stop.
"She is all i have, i will wait for her even if takes an eternity" her words hit him at the right spot but that's what he did. He waited for her, and waited and waited but she never came. Without feeling the need to reply he walked off from there.

His life without her was like a sea without shore. All the endless waves need to rest, need some peace, need someone to hold them when they are scattered. She was the one who kept him sane. She was the bane reason for his existence and the object of all his desires.  He was nothing without her.

He walked into the hospital room which he had converted into a comfortable room. He hated the smell of hospitals He wanted her to be comfortable so he laid all the soft silk matterss and all the pillows she used to lay on.

He sat near her while the coffee still in his hands. "The old woman said she will be waiting for you, she too wants you to come back". He started with a dry chuckle. "Why are you doing this to m-" his words froze in the mid air as his tears filled eyes landed on hers his tongue tied and no words left his mouth. He forgot how to breath as he stared at her And for the first time in a long time her eyes were staring back at him. She was half dotted half layed but her eyes were scrutinizing his every move and staring him with a hawk gaze.

He quickly was on his feets the coffee long forgotten. He asked if she could  hear him and called for the doctors. He couldn't believe his own eyes. He was sure that it was all his imagination like always. He held her face as if she was a miraj and will fade away if he didnt hold onto. Drops of tears fell on her cheek and she frowned and looked down realised he was towering over her and his tears were staining her cheek.

He wiped the tears from her cheek with his thumb. It felt as if he coukd finally breath. She held his hands, her questioning gaze never leaving her beautiful face and then only he broke the eye contact. Her hands were cold too cold. He leaned down to touch her forehead but The doctors came running into the room and he pulled away.

It was almost as if he was in a euphoria. 11 months. After eleven f*cking months she was opening her eyes. After eleven months of long waiting his prayers were finally listened. He didn't wait for a second and called for her family as well as his. She surely had made everyone cry, of course she is such a wonderful woman that everyone misses her.

But instead of telling everyone happy news he decided to trick them. He called everyone and made sure his voice is broken and looked like he is almost crying. " come quickly something has happened". He said on the phone. For a second there was no reply but then sound of engine starting came and he quickly cut the call.

In less than a minute, nikhil, vanya, niraj, and both the moms were practically running inside the hospital. "What's wrong kabir? What happened to chitra?" Her mother asked in almost a broken voice and he cursed himself internally. Sure his prank was getting too far but it will sure make them too happy to hold a grudge on.

"Chitra is awake!". He said in a soft voice and there were gasps heard and everyone asking if whatever they heard was true. After reassuring them that it was true and that she has finally woken up everyone burst into tears. Since the doctors were still running tests they couldn't see her.

After crying and thanking god for the miracle the doctors came outside and everyone quickly asked permission to see her. He quitely nodded his head and everyone rushed in the room.

"Mr. Singh can i talk to you for a second?" The doctor asked and kabir nodded his head slightly annoyed that he was asking for him when he should be meeting his wife.

The doctor took him a little away from the room so that the other wont hear them. And it scared him  a little. Was chitra still in danger? He thought of all the worst possibilities.  And a goosebumps rose all over his body.
What if she only has one day to live? He quickly shook his head trying to get rid of the thought.

"Sir.."the doctor started but not knowing how to continue he stopped making his heart beat faster he hoped it was not what he was thinking.

"Sir she still thinks its 2020, she has lost his memory of two years" That broke him all over again.

She forgot him!?
