Just hear me out on this one, okay? I put a lot of effort into this, even if it's not the best. :')

Heads up: breaking of a foot

--------------

Young Cathy was running around the forest of her little town, admiring the flowers and chasing the little animals. She wasn't alone, Catalina was with her, making sure no one and nothing died.

Catalina herself was looking around, inspecting mushrooms and insects, when she heard a loud gasp from Cathy, "is everything alright?! Are you hurt?!" Her immediate reaction was worry.

"I found a frog!" Cathy squealed in excitement. Catalina's shoulders slumped in relief.

"Hello, Mr Froggy!" Cathy petted the frogs head lovingly, "You're so cute and smol. I love you little frog! Will you turn into a prince when I kiss you?"

Catalina laughed, "aw, but Cathy, that only works with cursed princes who can talk, not frogs in the woods. You read too much."

But eventually the frog jumped off Cathy's hand and she turned to Catalina to stick out her tongue.

Cathy was easily distracted by a few more 'ribbits' from several frogs. Catalina couldn't quite keep up with the seven year old, but she did catch how Cathy opened the lid to a container with many frogs in them and setting them free.

"Hey!" a loud rough voice called, "those are mine, you little shit!"

Catalina stayed back and hid behind a tree, a decision she would grow to regret for the rest of her entire life. She'd wish that she stepped between. She'd hate herself for not having helped.

The all dreaded witch of the town stepped into view, but Cathy stood firm, "They're not yours, they're their own beings!"

Cathy also held her back straight, when the witch's eyes as well as her hands began glowing, "so you like disgusting, phlegmy-eyed creatures?"

"I do! And I'll fight for them all!" Cathy shot right back, eyes filled with determination.

Catalina's whole body stiffened as she saw pretty much all of the frogs fall limp to the mud, dead. Possibly a sacrifice, called on by the town terror of a witch.

"That'd mean that you must not mind if you were to become one, you lizard." She laughed loudly at Cathy's face starting to turn fearful. "Oh, little girl, you didn't think you could do me harm and get away, did you? From this day forward, you shall be a monster. Since you love slimy animals so much, you will live among them. Humans will hate you, your family will hate you."

Cathy waved her hands around, already tearing up, "w-wait! You don't need to-"

The witch leaned down to look directly into her eyes, "do you want to keep all your little friends?" she mocked in an overdramatic baby-voice.

Unsure of what'd happen, Cathy nodded quickly.

"Then you will return to human if you somehow get anyone to get close to you."

"But-"

The witch was gone, with the very few living frogs left.

"What a mean woman!" Cathy cried out. She kind of turned confused after a bit, "but nothing happened..."

Catalina ran up to her and hugged her tightly, "are you okay?"

"I think she cursed me, but.. I don't feel any different?" Cathy looked up at Catalina, afraid in a way.
