"Are you going out today, as well?" Diluc's voice called out behind you as you were about to head out.
You paused for a moment, deciding whether or not to tell him.
You slowly nodded as your answer, keeping your walls up against him. There was still a resilience to get close to him, and a refusal to open up to him. Though, ever since he joined you on the cliff that day, things between you two were beginning to defrost.
Even Diluc, who usually kept to himself after his father's passing, was going out of his way to reach out to you. Which to him, was a move he didn't see himself making. Yet, if he were to cleanse this world of its corrupt souls, he would do whatever it took.
"Would you mind if I accompanied you?" Diluc came over, now standing beside you.
"...Fine." You murmured quietly, a tint of hesitance in your voice.
A few weeks had passed by since you met Diluc on the cliff, approximately about two or three. Whenever you had an off day, you spent your time within Mondstadt's gates.
Your demeanor often discouraged people from approaching you, and your dismissive attitude was quick to circulate around the city.
However...
The moment you stepped within the gates, a child was quick to wrap their small arms around your legs.
"It's Y/N!" The child exclaimed cheerfully, "Will you play with us today?"
Diluc was almost immediately pushed over aside as more children began to drag you away before you could say something.
"Ah..-" You blinked, and in the next second you were being placed down on a nearby bench.
"Look, isn't this paper crane cool?" Another child asked you, displaying the paper crane in his hands in front of you.
You didn't know why, but children seemed to like your company more over the past weeks. Whether or not you enjoyed playing with kids didn't matter, because the children were always the one pulling you away. It was as though they all thought of you as some older sibling figure.
"It's very nice, did you make it?" You gave a soft smile to the child.
The little boy grinned brightly, "Yeah! I can show you how to make it if you want to!"
A little girl stepped in front of the boy, "Y/N doesn't have time for that! Y/N, I picked flowers. Aren't they pretty? Do you like them?" The girl brought the flowers up to your face, eager for a response.
Before you could say anything else, more children began to interrupt each other. You could only sit on the bench, listening tiredly to the small voices of children arguing.
You cleared your throat, and the children instantly quieted down.
"Don't be mean to each other." You said, sternly, "You kids should be focused on making more friends, instead of fighting."
