I sat there, holding her hand, lost in thought, when suddenly I felt her grip tighten around mine. Glancing down at her, I saw her slowly opening her eyes.

"Laddoo," I said, gently caressing her head with one hand while holding hers with the other. She didn't meet my gaze, and after a moment, she withdrew her hand from mine. I swallowed the lump in my throat. It hurt to see her no longer expecting my touch. Quickly, I masked my emotions.

"Laddoo, tu.." I trailed off as I watched her attempt to rise from the bed.

"Where are you going, baby?" I asked, but she didn't stop. I reached out and grabbed her hand to halt her progress.

"Laddoo, kaha ja rahi hai batana? Mein lekar chalta hu tujhe," I said, but she jerked her hand away and headed towards the bathroom. I followed closely behind. As she reached for the door to close it, I hesitated, then interposed my hand.

"Please, don't close the door," I pleaded. She stared at me for a moment, then relented, leaving the door slightly ajar. Whatever had happened earlier in the morning had instilled a deep fear in my mind. When it came to her, I couldn't afford to take any risks.

Mishbir were busy preparing some healthy food for her, and I sat patiently on the bed, tapping my foot on the floor.

Twenty minutes passed, then thirty, and still she hadn't emerged. Finally, unable to wait any longer, I walked over to the door and knocked.

"Laddoo?" I called out, but there was no response.

"Laddoo, are you done, baby? Aur kitna time lagayengi?" Again, silence.

"Laddoo, I'm coming in, Okay?" I waited for a response, but when none came, I entered the bathroom, my heart pounding with fear.

My eyes welled up as I saw her standing lifelessly under the shower, looking devoid of life. Without hesitation, I wrapped my arms around her in a tight hug, but she didn't hug me back, she just stood there, unmoving.

"Meri quismat ke har ek
panne pain"

I don't know if the water is soothing her pain or not, but it's helping me conceal my tears from myself, so I don't weaken. I have to stay strong for her. That's what I keep reminding myself.

"Mere jeete ji baad
Marane ke"

I kissed her head multiple times. Life can be tough. Sometimes it's harsh and unjust to innocent people. This cruelty breaks you into pieces and shatters you from within so badly that it becomes impossible to gather yourself. You start to give up, lost in a pool of depression, reaching a point where you want to die.

"Mere har ek kal Har ek lamhein mein
Tu likh de mera usse"

I have passed through that horrible phase in my life. And now, it's exactly what is happening with my laddoo. She is giving up, but I will not let her. I will fight for her, or even with her if she tries to go away from me. I will stand beside her, holding her hand, but I will never let her give up on herself or on us.
