"James, we're going after Azzano tomorrow. You have to be careful, you have to come home." Emilia pleaded as the two walked together hand in hand. They'd been working together for months, somehow getting closer and closer as the days went by.
"I will, there are 200 of us going. I'm sure we can handle it. Plus we have the most beautiful nurse I've ever laid eyes on accompanying us out there." Bucky reassured her as they walked. Emilia felt her cheeks flush, looking away from him for a moment to gather herself.
Bucky didn't even mind her calling him James, he was pretty sure she could call him anything and as long as she was the one saying it, it was music to his ears. He happily strolled through the base with Emilia, enjoying a few hours of peace before the chaos began again bright and early tomorrow. The entire regiment was getting worn out, their spirits low, their energy low. But tomorrow it all started back up, for possibly their hardest mission. For tonight, however, Bucky just enjoyed holding Emilia's hand. He just enjoyed walking with her through camp, he enjoyed the way her eyes sparkled when they looked at each other.
"Tell me about your life before this." Emilia insisted. She needed the distraction from what was going on all around them.
"It was just my best friend and I, Steve." Bucky explained. He went into detail about his life before the war, leaving out the details about his lengthy dating history, however. He talked about his sister, his home life, his dreams, hobbies, everything. Emilia felt herself lost in his words, hanging onto everything he said, following his beautiful Brooklyn accent as he spoke.
"Maybe when the war is over, you'll come back to Brooklyn with me?" Bucky asked.
"And why would I do that, Sargeant Barnes?" Emilia asked as they walked. Bucky stopped, turning to face Emilia. The hand that wasn't holding onto hers wrapped around her waist. "Because I'm crazy about ya, doll." He admitted.
"You barely know me." Emilia protested. But her cheeks were flushed a faded pink as she stared up at him. The hand that wasn't holding onto his, she rested on his chest.
"Then tell me, everything. Start from the beginning. I wanna hear it all." Bucky said with a charming laugh. He released Emilia from his hold, keeping her hand in his as the two continued to walk together.
"Ready to be bored?" Emilia teased as their walk restarted. Bucky raised an eyebrow at her. "You could never bore me, doll. Start from the beginning, you were born at like 4AM? I feel like you were born at the most random and inconvenient time." He joked.
Emilia rolled her eyes at him. "My dad was a Marine in the first war, my mother is a music teacher. My dad taught me how to fight, my mom taught me how to play." Emilia explained.
"What do you play?" Bucky asked.
"What can't I play?" Emilia joked. "Piano, cello, guitar, saxophone, violin.." Emilia explained.
"And you fight?" Bucky asked, Emilia nodded. "My dad was trained in Judo and Jiu-Jitsu when he was enlisted." She explained.
"I didn't always want to be a nurse, you know? I wanted to be an author, maybe a teacher like my mom." Emilia said with a casual shrug.
"Then why enlist? Why decide to be a combat nurse instead?" Bucky asked. He hung onto every word she said, obsessed with the sound of her voice, music to his ears.
"I couldn't just do nothing. I was still in high school when the war started, before we got involved. My dad warned me that it was going to happen, said I should hurry up and find an eligible bachelor before they all shipped out." She said with a laugh. "I preferred to take my time making sure I was useful." She added.
