Emilia had just landed in Switzerland, excited to see Bucky and Steve. Nervous that in just two days they were leaving for their final mission.
"Doll!" Bucky called out happily as soon as Emilia got off the plane. She dropped her bag and ran to Bucky, running into his embrace.
"I missed you, James." Emilia said happily. She buried her face into Bucky's chest, wrapping her arms tightly around him. Bucky wrapped his arms tightly around Emilia, laying his head against hers. "I missed you, Em." He said quietly.
Steve walked past the two, grabbing Emilia's bags for her and walking back to the car with it. "Good to have you back, Em." Steve said, patting her on the back lightly as he made his way to the car.
Emilia breathed in Bucky's scent, his warmth, the feeling of his arms. "Come out with me tonight." Bucky insisted. Emilia made a happy hum, looking up at Bucky with a smile. "You already know I'd follow you anywhere." She said confidently.
"Good, we have enough time to drop your bag off and head out." Bucky explained. He finally let Emilia out of his arms, taking her hand instead. He led Emilia back to the car he and Steve had taken to pick Emilia up. He sat in the back with her while Steve drove them back to camp.
"Why are your bags so heavy?" Steve asked about halfway back to camp.
Emilia let out a quiet chuckle. "My mom went overboard. She made like 12 dozen cookies, and apple butter." She admitted.
"The guys are gonna love you. Dugan was just complaining about missing his wife's food." Steve said with a laugh. Emilia let out a loud laugh, rolling her eyes at Steve. "Who said I'm sharing?" She teased.
"You're a cruel woman, doll." Bucky said with a chuckle. He pulled Emilia closer into his chest, feeling like he couldn't be close enough to her if he tried. He missed her over the last week, but he also knew their worst mission was coming up, the last if they were successful. They were finally going after Zola.
Emilia chuckled lightly, holding herself so close to Bucky she was almost on top of him. "Of course I will share with the guys. When do we see the guys again?" She asked.
"We can stop by the barracks on our way out, drop off some of your mothers goodies." Bucky said, kissing Emilia's temple again.
Emilia was quick to throw her bags back in her living quarters, grabbing 10 dozen of the 12 dozen cookies for the guys. She figured Steve would get a dozen to himself and her and Bucky could share one. She also grabbed 4 of the 9 jars of apple butter for the guys and headed back out to the car.
"Damn, doll. How much did she send you with?" Bucky asked with a laugh, he grabbed everything she was carrying, carrying it for her.
"12 dozen cookies. She went overboard. I figured we'll share one and Steve can have one to himself." Emilia explained. She hopped back in the car with Bucky, immediately handing Steve a dozen cookies.
"Just for me? Can't wait to meet Louise when we get home." Steve said. He dug right into the cookies as he drove the two to the barracks to meet up with the guys. "My lord, is your mother married?" Steve teased, letting out a moan at the taste of her mother's baked goods.
Emilia laughed out loud, leaning onto Bucky. "Yes, but just wait until we're home. She already has a new list of all the meals she's cooking for the three of us when we get back." She said happily.
"I'm gonna be as big as a house this time next year, won't I?" Steve asked with a laugh. He ate half of his dozen while he drove them to the barracks. Emilia tossed him another dozen before happily climbing out of the car with Bucky. She figured the guys could simply share 9 dozen instead.
"Hanley, you're back!" Morita called out when he saw the two coming in with armfuls of bags.
"I had to see my guys off." Emilia teased. She sat the baked goods down in the table, letting it spread out across the table the men were playing cards on. "My mom wishes everyone good luck." She said. She couldn't help but laugh as the men tore into the variety of cookies like wild, starved animals.
"Thank the lord for Mrs. Hanley!" One of the men yelled out. Bucky sat down the jars of apple butter as well. He laughed as Sawyer dug into the apple butter with a spoon.
"Thank the lord for Emilia." Dugan corrected with a laugh.
Bucky led Emilia away, taking over the car from Steve while he headed back to his living quarters for the night.
Bucky took Emilia to the Chapel Bridge in Lucerne, a small town not far from where they were staying.
"James, it's beautiful." Emilia said happily as Bucky took her hand. The two walked along the bridge through sunset, until the lights lit up on the bridge and they were the only ones left walking.
"Em, I know we talked about this. But, I don't want to wait. Tomorrow is our last day together before this last mission. I don't want to wait until I get back, I want to know that you're mine before I leave." Bucky blurted out. He quickly stopped, leaning against the bridge and pulling Emilia to lean against his chest. He pulled the familiar ring box out of his pocket and opened it. "Emilia Louise Hanley, please marry me." He pleaded.
Emilia stared at Bucky in shock, her eyes shifting from Bucky to the ring over and over. Finally, her eyes settled on Bucky's. Her shocked face turned into a small smile. "Yes, James." She finally said happily.
"Wait, really?" Bucky said. He pulled Emilia further into his chest. His hand held onto the back of her head, pulling her towards him until their lips connected. He kissed Emilia with every ounce of love he had in his body for her, their lips moved in sync like they were made for each other. When the kiss finally broke, it was only because of their need for air.
"Yes, James. Really." Emilia answered. Bucky was almost giddy as he finally pulled the ring out of the box, slipping it onto her slender finger.
Emilia finally got the chance to admire the ring. A beautiful art deco style ring with a gorgeous square diamond in the middle and little aquamarine gems on the sides. (If you don't like it, just Google engagement rings from the 40s and pick your favorite, least cringy one. They're all kinda bad.)
"Marry me tomorrow, Em. Please, give me a wife to come home to." Bucky pleaded. Emilia stared up at Bucky in shock. Even though she was the one that insisted he waited to propose until they were done in the service, she didn't want to wait two years to finally get that ring from Bucky. She didn't want to wait another day to marry him, either.
"Yes." Emilia said calmly.
Bucky pulled Emilia into another kiss, one more heated. The hand wrapped around her waist settled on the bottom of her butt, holding her flush against his body while their tongues tangled together. He let out a moan in appreciation when Emilia tugged lightly on the hair at the nape of his neck.
The two were married the next day at the camp, a little nothing ceremony, only Steve, Peggy, and the team invited. Emilia didn't even care that her parents didn't know, she didn't care that she didn't get the giant white dress or typical ceremony. She didn't care about anything but the fact that she got to marry Bucky. It was easily the best day of her life when she heard the camp's pastor announce them as husband and wife, getting a kiss from Bucky so passionate that she had to hold onto him for dear life to keep her balance.
