The next morning was a bit of chaos on its own. Bucky headed downstairs as soon as he'd woken up, ready to make breakfast for his wife and bring it back up for her. But when he'd gotten downstairs, Wanda was already in the kitchen. By the looks of it, she'd been down here for a while. She'd made a feast, enough food for far too many people. But way too many sweets. "You okay, kid?" He asked. He worried if she was awake this early, it was because she hadn't slept well.
Wanda gave a short nod, purposley distracting herself with cooking. She'd made banana bread, pumpkin bread, waffles, pancakes, bacon, apple oatmeal muffins, and cut-up fruit. "I'm fine, coffee?" She asked, again, distracting herself.
Bucky nodded, coming around the counter to grab his coffee cup and pour a cup as he surveyed everything Wanda had made. As thoughtful as this all was, and the rest of the team would love it, it would spike Emilia's sugars. So, he grabbed a pan and turned the stove on. "You sure? How long have you been up?" He asked.
Wanda noticed him heating up the pan, wondering if she'd forgotten something. "A while. What are you making? I can make it." She said, ready to push him out of the way. She not only wanted the distraction, but she wanted to help in any way she could for letting her stay with them for the night. Maybe longer, but she didn't want to overstay her welcome.
"I got it, kid. I'm making avocado toast with scrambled eggs for Em, she cant have all that sugar it'll spike her." Bucky explained. "Go sit down. You've done enough." He promised her, not wanting her to think he wasn't grateful for her help.
Wanda sighed, sitting down in one of the barstools at the island. "I forgot about that, I'm sorry." She said. Bucky just waved her off, not even the slightest bit worried that she hadn't made anything for Emilia. "I prefer to make my wife's breakfast myself, anyway." He said with a shrug.
Emilia woke up alone, but even from the third floor, she could smell the baked goods. She climbed out of bed, feeling better than she had in weeks. She had Bucky back. He'd been her personal pregnancy pillow again. She loved how she could lay her bump on his chest, trusting him to keep her comfortable. She loved even more that he slept so well being laid on. She worried at first that laying her bump on him would keep him awake, but it didn't. Anytime he slept with her, he slept well. She quickly got dressed. Well, she threw on one of Bucky's shirts and a pair of shorts. The shorts had to sit under her bump, not even coming close to stretching over her belly. But her shirt covered most of her. Plus, Steve, Maddison, and Bucky had seen everything anyway. So, who cares?
Emilia almost shrieked in surprise when she got to the kitchen, seeing Nat and Sam piling their plates high with food. Maddison was making breakfast for Avery while Steve was being hogged by Avery. She was gripping onto Steve's face, yelling "daddy home," and kissing him over and over. Bucky quickly crossed the kitchen when he saw Emilia, wrapping his arms around her and kissing her cheek. "I was just about to bring you breakfast in bed." He told her, stealing a kiss from her lips before standing up to his full height.
Emilia nervously tugged her shirt down, trying to hide her bump. She didn't realize anyone else was at their house, she definitley would've put a real shirt on if she had known. Probably some leggings instead of shorts as well. "Whats all this?" She whispered to him.
Steve rushed to Emilia, still holding Avery. But he missed her. He wrapped her in a one-armed hug, kissing her cheek afterward. "How about you sit down?" He suggested.
Bucky rolled his eyes at his friend, but he was right. He took Emilia's hand, leading her toward the kitchen table and helping her lower into the chair. As soon as she sat down, she sighed, readjusting how she was sitting. "You okay, doll?" He asked quietly. His hands started to lightly knead her shoulders and the base of her neck while he waited for a response.
"My hips hurt a lot." Emilia whispered, almost embarrassed to complain in front of a group of people who had just fought an alien.
Bucky leaned down, kissing the top of her head. He grabbed her breakfast, sitting it down in front of her before sitting beside her with his coffee. "Do you want to sit on the couch? Will that be easier for you?" He asked. He was willing to do absolutely anything to ease her discomfort. But she sighed and shook her head as she started to pick at her breakfast.
Bucky had made her avocado toast with scrambled eggs, grabbed a slice of bacon that Wanda had made, and a few pieces of the cut-up fruit. The bread was risky. It could spike her despite it being whole grain bread. But he was hoping that with the eggs and the bacon, she'd have enough protein to counteract the bread. This was her usual breakfast before he left, but the bacon was chicken sausage, and the fruit wasn't berries but kiwi. But, similar enough that he was hoping she'd be okay. "I was going to tell you that Sam and Nat stayed the night. We got home pretty late, so Steve and I insisted they stay." He explained.
Emilia smiled at Nat and Sam, feeling awkward being so under dressed in front of them but not wanting to be rude. "Of course, I hope you're both okay.." She said.
"We're fine, and we'll be out of your hair shortly. Thank you for letting us stay last night." Nat said with a warm smile.
Emilia waved a hand at Nat. "Nonsense, you're welcome as long as you need." She reassured them. Even if it meant having to dress uncomfortably to cover herself at home.
Bucky turned his focus to Emilia, watching her with all the love in the world as she picked at her breakfast. "Wanda had to run upstairs for a moment, but I told her she could stay as long as she needed." He told her, but if she hadn't wanted Wanda there, he would've helped her get a hotel or something. He would've tried to help her as best as he could.
"Of course, you all can. You helped us in Germany, and you helped in Wakanda. You're more than welcome." Emilia promised, looking at Sam and Nat again.
Sam came around the kitchen table, sitting on the other side of Emilia despite Bucky's "Im going to kill you." Look on his face. "You look good." He told her, leaning in to give her a quick hug. He had to surpress a laugh when Emilia held her hand onto Bucky's chest to keep him from lunging at him for touching her.
Bucky rubbed her bump lightly, getting her attention from Sam. "Doll, Wanda lost Vision in that fight." He said quietly, hoping Wanda wasn't within earshot.
Emilia gasped, her heart breaking for poor Wanda. She'd lost her love. She knew how that felt. She knew exactly the pain Wanda was going through right now. She pulled herself out of her chair, abandoning her breakfast. "Doll, where are you going?" Bucky asked. He quickly got up and followed her as she climbed the stairs at a painfully slow pace.
"To see Wanda, of course. Stay down here, James." Emilia said. She left him at the bottom of the stairs, taking herself towards the hallway of guest bedrooms. It took a moment, but she finally found the one Wanda was staying in. Poor girl was sitting up in bed, fighting back tears. But she picked her head up and offered a smile when Emilia stepped into the room. "Oh, darling..." Emilia said quietly. As quickly as she could, she crossed the distance and sat beside Wanda on the bed. "Come here, darling." Emilia said sweetly. She pulled Wanda into her arms, hugging her tightly.
Poor Wanda burst into tears at that gesture. She hadn't had a hug from such a lovingly motherly figure in so long. She didn't even realize she'd missed it until Emilia grabbed onto her. She held onto Emilia tightly, her face tucked into the security of Emilia's neck while she cried. Emilia just sat there with her, running her fingers through Wanda's red hair as she sobbed. "Let it all out, dear. I'm here." Emilia said several times while Wanda cried.
Once Wanda had composed herself, she pulled her face away from Emilia. "I'm sorry." She said quietly.
Emilia simply shushed her, running a hand down Wanda's arm soothingly. "Thats quite alright, darling. Sometimes you need to get it all out." She promised her.
Wanda had never felt so comforted, so safe, from anyone in a long time. Maybe not even as a child, but Emilia's hugs felt like home. The two headed back downstairs, Wanda to finally meet Avery and Maddison, Emilia to finish her breakfast before her sugar dropped too low or Bucky came and got her.
