Emilia bounced her knee nervously the entire jet ride back to New York. Bucky sat close by her side, his hand holding onto her thigh, his thumb stroking her through her jeans. Shuri's surgery was a success, the arm was on and the trigger words didn't have an effect on Bucky any longer. Emilia couldn't believe that part of their lives was over. Of course, Hydra could come back for him at any time, but without those words they wouldn't get far. Plus, according to Steve, Hydra was in hiding since the Helicarrier incident in DC. Nobody had heard much of anything from them, for now. Nobody was naive enough to believe that was a permanent safety from Hydra. Everyone silently agreed that they were probably in the shadows, gearing up for something big. But, for now, they could have some shred of a normal life.

"Tell me about this house." Bucky said out of nowhere. He felt Emilia drift off into thought, feeling that she wasn't in the moment with him. So he did what he always did, distracted her. He had a way about him that tore her out of whatever thoughts haunted her mind.

Emilia let out a quiet laugh, finally looking up from her lap and to her husband. "It's white and old New York brick, Victorian style. It's three stories and has a porch across the entire front of the house. There are rose bushes along the front of the porch. We have four bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms and a back yard, but there's nothing in the back yard but a shred that holds the mower I've never used." She said with another chuckle.

"That's my job now anyway." Bucky said confidently. "What have you been doing in that big house all by yourself?" He asked.

Emilia shrugged, her eyes going back to her hands in her lap. "I work as much as I can, it was a good distraction. When I'm home I'm either cooking, cleaning, sleeping or sitting on the porch swing." She said quietly. She didn't want to admit how pathetic her life was without Bucky in it.

Bucky lifted Emilia into his lap, holding her close to his chest. "Well, now you don't need a distraction. I'm home, doll." He promised. He couldn't believe that Tony Stark actually went through with his promise to listen to Emilia if she helped save Rhodey. He'd somehow managed, with the help of Fury, to negotiate pardons for what happened and kept Steve and Sam out of jail for refusing to sign the Sokovia Accords, with the promise that they were no longer Avengers if they wouldn't sign. Getting them back on the team was going to be a struggle on its own, but not something they needed to worry about right now. "It'll be the three of us, like it should've been after the war." He said with a sigh.

Emilia held onto Bucky's face with both hands, her thumbs stroked the smooth skin while she admired how beautiful her husband was. "It is after the war. We just had a few bumps in the road before we got here." She said. "Have to admit though, I'm not totally excited to be roommates with Steve..." She added with a laugh. She wanted him there, Steve was always welcome in her life now that she'd finally let go of the anger towards him, but she also wanted to start her life with her husband. Alone.

Steve's apartment was destroyed after the Helicarrier in DC, he'd been bouncing between staying at The Avengers compound and traveling the world in search of Bucky. But now he and Tony Stark weren't on the best of terms despite the pardon, it only seemed right to offer him their home. After all, all of this was to protect Bucky, to save him.

"We'll just have to soundproof the bedroom..and hold off on breaking in every piece of furniture in the house." Bucky teased.

The two could hear Steve laughing from the pilots seat of the jet. "Please do. I don't want to be afraid to eat at the kitchen table." He called out to them.

Bucky rolled his eyes, pulling Emilia closer into his chest until his lips could graze across her temple. "We should start with the kitchen table." He teased.

"I heard that, jerk." Steve said with a laugh.

"You were supposed to, punk." Bucky said back just as loudly. His focus shifted back to his wife in his lap, seeing her laughing at the twos banter just as she did in the 40s. "Everything is going to be fine, Em. Better than fine." He promised.
