It had now been 7 years since Emilia woke up, two years since Steve visited her. She considered herself lucky that Steve actually listened to her, that he never returned. She loved Steve like family back in the day. But now it stung like pouring alcohol on a cut to see him. It ached her entire chest just to hear his name. Of course, Steve reprised his role as Captian America, defending the world as he was meant to do. But that meant having to hear everyone talk about him, swoon over him like he was God's gift to man. She wanted to be proud, she wanted to be happy for him. But she hated him, deep in her bones she hated him, even though she knew that wasn't right.
Emilia's therapist, appointed by SHIELD, was the only one she spoke to about her old life. She said that Emilia was still going through the stages of grief. That she was trapped in the anger stage. But Emilia didn't care, she wanted to be angry if it meant she never reached acceptance. She would never accept or be okay with Bucky being gone. She would never accept or be okay with Steve being alive while Bucky was gone. It wasn't fair, it should've been both or neither in her eyes. She knew how messed up that logic was, but she was trapped in it.
Emilia was walking home when a man approached her, sprinted to her. "Are you Emilia?" He asked.
Emilia rested her hand on her hip, ready to pull her gun out if need be. She always feared Hydra coming back for her, that her escaping was a freak accident. That SHIELD just happened to stumble upon her cryo chamber and take her. She always worried that when Hydra realized her body was gone, they'd look for her. She didn't serve them any purpose, but she didn't know why they kept her alive in the first place, so maybe they had plans for her later. "Who's asking?" She said sternly.
"Sam Wilson, ma'am. I was sent by Steve Rogers." He said calmly. But all that did was make Emilia mad. She pulled her gun out of its holster, pointing it at the man. "Leave." She said sternly.
Sam put his hands up in surrender. "Woah, listen, listen. I'm not here to hurt you." He explained.
Emilia raised an eyebrow, giving him a smirk. "Maybe not, but I'll hurt you. Rogers knows better. I told him never to come near me again or I'd kill him." She answered.
"Bucky's alive." Sam said. Emilia turned off the safety on her gun, moving her finger to the trigger but not touching it. "The last time somebody told me that, I woke up 65 years later. I'm not doing that again." She said coldly.
Sam sighed, leaving his hands up, trying to prove to Emilia that he wasn't a threat. "I don't know how to prove to you that I'm not Hydra." He admitted.
"You can't." Emilia replied. "Just leave me alone. The serum doesn't work on me. I don't know what you have to tell your men, tell them I'm dead, I don't care. I don't want to have to kill you, but I will." She said sternly.
"I'm not with Hydra. Steve sent me to get you, now I kinda see why." Sam replied with a nervous laugh.
"I told Steve I never wanted to see or hear from him again." Emilia said sternly.
"If I pull my phone out, are you going to shoot me?" Sam asked. Emilia shrugged her shoulders, giving him a smirk. Sam rolled his eyes, slowly pulling his phone out of his pocket and calling Steve.
"Yo, man this woman is crazy!" Sam said the second Steve answered.
Steve let out a loud laugh. "I warned you the last time someone told her that, they kidnapped her. I told you she wasn't going to believe you." He reminded Sam.
"Yeah, yeah. Well I don't know how to prove it. Wake his ass up, make him say something." Sam said.
"Fine. But I'm not telling him why, mute the phone." Steve said sternly. Sam rolled his eyes, putting his phone on speaker but muting it so Steve and Bucky wouldn't be able to hear anything Sam or Emilia said.
