Chapter Seventeen

"Aiden." I breathed as I turned to him, seeing Riddle do the same by my side. A little smirk was playing on his lips as he regarded the other boy mockingly. I could feel the tension in the air.

"Johansson." He said coolly. "How nice of you to join us."

Aiden's expression was impossible to read as he looked at us, blue eyes taking in the closeness of us silently as they travelled first to Riddle's face and at last to mine. He had bags underneath his eyes, like he'd stayed up waiting for me and his black robes were wrinkled as if he'd sat in the same position for quite some time. A flash of guilt overcame me, despite it being completely unfounded.

"How nice of you to keep Amberly company as she waited on me." Aiden said, looking back to Riddle. I couldn't quite make out the look in his eyes and it unnerved me. I felt myself taking a step away from Riddle as I looked at Aiden, begging him to understand with my mere eyes.

"Of course." Riddle said somewhat coolly, a small smile playing on his pale lips. "How could I possibly leave Miss Green alone at this hour?" He said, giving Aiden a mocking up and down.

Aiden, who understood the underlying jab, narrowed his eyes at the tall boy and pulled me towards him. I let out a breath as I welcomed his embrace, eager to escape the awkward scene. Aiden looked down on me, but I could see him eyeing Riddle mockingly before pulling me towards him and giving me a passionate kiss that made my head spin as we parted. It couldn't have lasted more than thirty seconds, but when I looked back Riddle had already disappeared into the shadows, leaving us alone in the gloomy corridor.

"I can't stand that pompous little brat." Aiden grumbled as he too looked out into the corridor where Riddle had disappeared.

I nodded and mumbled something in agreement, but as we left together, arm in arm, I couldn't get his last words to me out of my mind. He'd called me Amberly. For the second time. The conversation echoed in my brain, even as I walked next to the boy I loved through the place I called my home. I should have been content. I should have been happy. But I wasn't. And for the life of me I couldn't figure out why.

We suddenly stopped in a corridor with windows overlooking the lake, on the other side of the corridor were several doors, small closets no doubt. Aiden leaned against the window, staring out into the night. I joined him carefully, but I didn't look at the lake, instead my eyes were locked on him. This beautiful boy that should have been my everything.

"What I would give to know what was going on in your head," Aiden chuckled and glanced at me out of the corner of his eye.

"Name a price and we'll talk about it." I chuckled while I in secret was incredibly happy that Aiden in fact could not read what was going on in my head.

"Tempting." He chortled and turned to me, blue eyes studying my face in the moonlight before tracing down my jaw to my neck to my collarbones and at last to my dress. "You're exquisite." He whispered.

I found myself blushing, but I was unable to look away. He grinned.

"And even more so with that glorious flush covering your cheeks."

I slapped his arm playfully. "Oh, hush you."

Aiden's eyes glinted jovially as he leaned forward. "Make. Me."

"That's still my line." I whispered before pulling him towards me, kissing him in a way I hadn't before. Hungry and desperate.

My aggression and pure desperation seemed to surprise him at first. His eyes opened in chock for a moment before I could feel him grin into me and meet my hunger with one of his own. I could hardly call myself an experienced or good kisser, he was still my only one, but as his lips melted into mine and his tongue wrestled with mine for control it didn't matter. He took control where my experience failed, guiding me towards emotions and sensations I didn't know were possible.
