“General Lamarque is dead.” The news took it’s time to sink in as the room remained quiet until Enjolras spoke. “We fight in his name, we must carry on with the plan.” A loud cheer erupted from among the students. “Tomorrow the barricade.” Marius shouted, another cheer was heard. “Tomorrow we make history!” Courfeyrac joined. Améile had a bad feeling. They spent hours working on the plan, Améile helping where she could. “Ponine is everything okay?” she asked walking over to her sister who was looking out the window. Améile looked to where she was staring to see Marius, with a blonde haired girl. They kissed and then she took off down the street. “Ponine?” she put a hand her back. “Please just leave me alone.” She turned around and disappeared into the crowd. Améile ran down the stairs and outside into the cold air. “Marius who was that girl?”. He smiled slightly, running a hand through his hair. “Cosette.” He breathed. She nodded with uncertainty. “I’m happy for you but… promise me something?” he looked down at her “Anything?” his face was confused. “Don’t hurt Eponine.”
He nodded his head in understanding. “And I get to come to the wedding.” He laughed. “Of course.” She gave him a hug. “I’ll see you tomorrow.” She walked down the street. She was nearly home when she heard footsteps behind her. She didn’t want to victim of some drunk guy. She slowed her pace. When the footsteps were nearer she swung around, throwing a punch into her pursuers face. He collapsed to the ground, groaning. “Courfeyrac? I’m so sorry.” She said bending down, pushing his hair from his face. She helped him up.
“Are you okay?” she moved her hand to his face to see a slight bruise forming on his eye. “Where’d you learn to hit like that?” he laughed stumbling slightly. “We should get you home.”Améile unlocked the door and helped Courfeyrac in. “Sit.” She said pointing at the counter top. He laughed. “Stop worrying. I’m fine.” She found a cloth and dipped it in the pail of cold water. She placed the cloth on his face, dabbing affectionately, his eyes meeting hers. He gently took the cloth away from her and placed it down beside him. His hands reached up to her face, tilting it to meet his. He leaned in hesitating slightly. Their lips met, he placed his hands on her waist pulling her in, she felt his legs on either side of her. The kiss was soft at first, there lips brushing off each other until Courfeyrac placed his hands on either side of her face, his tongue trailed along the bottom of her lip, asking for permission. She granted wordlessly, letting their tongues move in perfect sync. She placed her hand in his chest, unbuttoning his jacket and pulling it off. She started to do the same to his shirt when a little voice came from the hallway. “
Améile?” Gavourache stood in the doorway, looking at them with shocked eyes. She pulled away. “Gavourache! What are you doing up?” she asked trying to look casual by picking up the cloth and dabbing it against Courfeyrac’s face again.
“I heard noises from the kitchen so I came to see if everything was alright. What are you and Couf doing?” he said smirking a bit. “Courfeyrac hurt himself. Now go to bed.” She said blushing. He walked out of the room leaving them alone again. She sighed heavily hiding her face on the counter. “Are you okay?” he asked with a hint of amusement in his voice. He hopped off the table and wrapped his arms around her from behind, and lightly kissed her neck. She shook her head slightly. “I’m sorry.” He laughed into her neck. “I have a way you can repay me.” He lifted her into his arms. She wrapped her arms around his neck. “Please don’t drop me.” She rested her head on his shoulder as he carried her into her room and rested her softly onto the bed. He took off her shoes and then joined her in the bed. He pushed the loose strand of hair from her face.
She leaned in slightly and kissed him softly on the lips and pulled away smiling. “I love you, Améile.” He grabbed her hand. “I love you too Couf.” Her eyes started to water slightly. “Please be careful tomorrow. I don’t want you to go.” The tears streamed down her face. He pulled her into his chest and held her tightly.
“Everything will be okay. You’ve always wanted change, you thought of most of the ideas so there’s no way we’ll fail.” She shook her head. “What if none of my plans work? It would be all my fault that we fail.” He stroked her hair. “That won’t happen. I promise.” She sniffled slightly. “At least let me fight alongside you. I’m strong enough.” She looked up at him. “No. It’s too dangerous. If anything were to happen to you. I wouldn’t be able to live with myself.” He looked down at her and wiped away the tears. “How do you think I’ll feel if something were to happen to you or any of the boys and I didn’t even do anything to help.” He took his old family ring off his finger and placed it on hers. “As long as you wear this nothing bad could happen to us. I promise. Rest tomorrow will be a long day.” He kissed her head while she cuddled closer to him. He didn’t want this moment to end. In all his years of admiring her from a far he never thought this day would come but he was aware even though it was there first time together it might be there last.
