Courfeyrac woke up at as the sun was rising.  He looked down to see Améile resting on his chest. He admired how much nicer the ring looked on her finger then his. She looked so peaceful.  Carefully, he slipped from under her and got changed in the dim room.  The sun was just rising outside.  Just before he left he walked over to her and planted a soft kiss on her forehead, inhaling her sweet scent.  “I love you.” He whispered into her ear and left her apartment and headed to the café.  “Where did you disappear to last night?”  Marius nudged him as he entered the café.   He blushed slightly and walked up the stairs.  He longed to snuggle next to Améile again.  Everything was prepared all that was left to do was to wait.  He sat down near the window at the city that was still asleep.  Gavourache sat next to him and stared at him and Courfeyrac stared back raising an eyebrow.  “Are you going to marry Améie?  He asked bluntly.  Courfeyrac laughed.  “I hope so, lil’ man.”  Courfeyrac ran a hand through his hair.  “I already think of you as a brother so it would be cool but you better look after her.” He said sternly.

“Yes sir.” Courfeyrac said saluting him.  “But promise me if anything happens to me today, you’ll look after her lil’ man?”  Gavourache nodded to him and walked over to Combeferre.  He looked back at Paris, such a beautiful place.  He could see Améile’s small apartment in the distance.  He wondered had she woken up yet.  “Courfeyrac?  You haven’t seem yourself lately are you alright?”  Enjolras sat next to him.  “Yeah.  I’m just excited and nervous about this new world.  I’m wondering if we’ll get to see the new world?”  Enjolras stared intently out the window.  “I’m afraid I can’t answer that Couf.”  He avoided his eyes.  “But you told everyone…” Enjolras shook his head. “They want a new world but they want to be able to see it, which means they’ll fight harder if they believe.”  They sat in silence for awhile. “Couf, you’re the center I can’t do this without you.  Please…” Courfeyrac nodded and Enjolras thanked him and walked over to the other students.

Améile woke up feeling cold, she looked over to the other side of the bed which was empty.  Her heart sunk, the thought of not seeing him again ran through her head.  She lay in bed playing with his ring thinking of what he might be doing, what he’s thinking.  Suddenly a light bulb went off in her head.  She quickly got out of bed and got changed.  She ran out of the house and down the quiet streets of Paris where the people still slept, not aware of what the day might bring.  She got to the familiar house and knocked rapidly on the door.  Grantaire emerged his face softened at the sight of Améile.  “Is everything okay?” his eyes were filled with concern.  “I need your help.”

The tomb of Lamarque slowly paraded through the street.  A strange boy stood beside Grantaire that looked familiar to the students.  “Améile, I’m not sure about this.  What if something happens to you?”  Grantaire whispered into the strange boys ear.  “I have to I can’t just wait at home while you guys fight, and I don’t want to miss all the fun.” She winked at him playing the ring on her finger.  “It’s mainly for Courfeyrac isn’t it?” he said as more of a statement then a question.  She nodded slightly and looked over across the road at him.  He looked serious as he stared up the street.  Next to him was Combeferre and to the other side was someone she didn’t know but looked so familiar.  “Ponine?” she whispered Grantaire looked around.  “What? Where?” he looked to where she was staring.  “Well you too are as stupid as each other.  Please if anything were to happen to you I wouldn’t be able to live with myself.”  He begged

He was about to say something when he heard the voices of the students.  “Do you hear the people sing, singing the song of angry men.”  It was the signal.  “Too late now!” she laughed.  “Then join in the fight that will give you the right to be free!” they shouted Grantaire grasped her hand and pulled her behind him.  Waving their flags.  Everyone was so happy.  ‘Maybe there won’t be any violence!’ Améile whispered into his ear, but she couldn’t of been more wrong.  There was a loud gunshot and a woman fell to the floor.  There were shouts and screams and more gunshots.  “Courfeyrac!” she shouted as he fell back.  Grantaire held her back as someone helped him up.  “We need to get to the barricade.”  He held her hand as they ran to the barricade.  Everyone was running around and furniture fell from the houses.  She saw Courfeyrac running around, Gavourache behind him.  She saw Joly help pull stairs to the barricade with Jean and Enjolras.  Joleigh ran after Gavourahe shouting for him to come back.  All the students were there and safe, for now.
