Gavouravhe clung onto his chest where the bullet hit. "So you better run for cover when the pup goes...." the loud gunshot rung out around the barricade. "GAVOURACHE!" Améile sprinted to his body, his eyes lay open. She lifted him up and carried him to the other side of the barricade and layed him in front of her. "WAKE UP GAV! PLEASE!" she shook his cold body, choking out sobs. Tears spilt from Courfeyrac's eyes. He bent down and hugged her, trying to calm her. 'Its okay, everything will be okay.' He whispered softly. Joleigh emerged from around the corner gasping for air, her face red from running. 'Gavourache! Where's Gav? I woke up and he was gone!' She walked over to Enjolras who didn't take his eye off of Gavourache's unmoving body. 'No!' Joleigh gasped covering her mouth! 'He was there this morning... I saw him asleep.' She cried. Enjolras put a hand on her shoulder as she leaned her head into the crook of his neck. 'Dont leave me Gav, don't leave me here alone!' Améile whispered.

Anger built in all of them. "You have no chance!! Why throw your lives away!" the general shouted. "We fight for freedom, and if we fall others shall rise to take our place." Enjolras shouted. The volunteer carried Gavourache into the tavern. Courfeyrac stood up and held Améile's hand. 'Please don't leave me.' Courfeyrac kissed her. 'Wouldn't dream of it.' She smiled. They shared one more kiss before a shout broke them apart. "FIRE!" pieces of the barricade flew off. Screams and shouts escaped from the students as bullets flew around them. Courfeyrac pushed Améile back and climbed the barricade. 'Theres more men Enjolras!' Combeferre shouted. 'ADVANCE!' The soldiers advanced towards the barricade. Bosseut fell to the floor. Améile ran to him. Blood poured out of his chest. 'Be careful little sister.' He smiled and held her hand, he took one final breath and closed his eyes. 'Bosseut!' She shook him. She looked around the barricade, and got up. 'JOLEIGH!' She shouted but there was no answer. 'Where is she?' Enjolras asked. 'I don't know.' He grabbed her hand and pulled her behind him and shot at a soldier. 'Go look for her. Please.' She nodded and ran into the cafè. 'Joleigh?' A soldier stood there covered in blood. 'Get away now, or I'll shoot!' He laughed a bitter laugh. 'I'm pretty sure that was your friends last words.' He started to walk towards her. 'Get away!' He got closer and she backed away. A shot rang out and the soldier collapsed to the ground. 'Améile are you okay?' Grantaire put the gun down to his side and grabbed her hand. 'Thank you Taire.'

Améile scanned the room. What did he mean by that's what your friend said. 'Améile?' She walked around the table and stopped. 'Joleigh?' She whispered and collapsed to the floor. Joleigh laid motionlessly. 'Améile we need to go.' Grantaire pulled her up and turned her to face him. 'We need to get out of here!' the tears streamed down her face. 'But.. But Joleigh?' he shook his head. 'She's in a better place now.' He gave her a quick hug. They were about to leave when Enjolras bursted through the door, dragging Jehan followed by Combeferre, Joly and Feuilly and Courfeyrac. 'Are you okay? Are you hurt?' She wiped the blood off his forehead. There were a number of gunshots. 'Wheres Marius?' She asked she looked outside to see the soldiers climbing the barricade and Marius being shot. 'Marius!' She pushed the volunteer barricading the door and ran to him. 'Marius? Can you hear me?' He looked at her. 'I'm sorry I couldn't protect Poninw or Gav and I'm sorry I can't protect you anymore.' He closed his eyes. She felt arms around her waist pulling her away. 'Courfeyrac we have to help him.'

'We need to get to cov-' the grip on her loosened and she fell back. She turned around to see Courfeyrac bleeding. And at that moment her world completely shattered around her. She opened her mouth but nothing came out. 'Couf.' She whispered. She crawled over to him. 'I love you.' He whispered stroking her face. She looked up and the soldier just stood there, staring. She looked back down. 'I love you too.' He let out a weak cough. 'Your so beautiful.' She laughed slightly.

Grantaire looked out the window to see Améile leaning over Courfeyrac. 'Améile!' He yelled but she didn't move. He looked around Marius and the volunteer were gone and Jehan was laying on the ground unmoving. He ran out the door and lifted Amèile over his shoulder. 'COURFEYRAC!' She cried. Her hair falling in her face. 'I love you.' He said and his eyes slowly closed.

'Grantaire we can't just leave him. I love him.' She sobbed. 'Quickly up here.' Enjolras shouted. Combeferre, Joly, Grantaire and Améile ran up the stairs. They stood in the middle trying not to make a sound. Grantaire grasped Améile's hand. There were two gun shots and Joly and Combeferre fell to the floor. They edged towards the back of the room. Hopeless, accepting that this was the end for them. The soldiers cautiously entered the room.

'Do you permit it?' Grantaire asked Enjolras reaching out his hand. Enjolras smiled and raised the red flag. Grantaire grasped Améile's and with that the shots rung out and everything was quiet.

Améile looked to her side to see Grantaire lying near her. 'Taire?' She tried to get up but a sharp pain flowed through her body she looked down to see the clothes she had borrowed from Grantaire covered in blood, but she couldn't believe that only yesterday they were excited and happy, but now they were all dead. She crawled over to Grantaire's body and leaned over him. 'You were my best friend.' She whispered and kissed his forehead.

She got up with great difficulty and limped to the stairs, the soldiers were all outside and yet they weren't celebrating. They questioned themselves. Was it really worth it? She winced in pain but kept on walking. She walked outside and collapsed next to Courfeyrac's body. She leaned over and for the last time and kissed his cold lips, lingering for awhile as the tears poured down her face. She lied back and held his cold hand. 'I love you.' She took a deep breath. 'So, so much.' And with that her eyes looked up into the sky as the clouds cleared slightly and a little ray of sun escaped. 'Goodbye. I'll see you soon Couf.'
