Mayas POV

I'm getting more and more nervous as the minutes pass that carina doesn't answer. I hear a knock on my door, Travis said he was coming by to check on me. "Come in, T" I say with a raspy voice, before breaking into a coughing fit.

When I open my eyes, it's not Travis. It's carina. Tears are streaming down her face, the look she gave me was nothing but pity and love. "Bambina" she says, hugging me. God, I missed her. The smell of her hair, the warmth of her skin. She kisses my ash covered forehead, "I missed you." She says, I stare into her eyes for a second, thinking of the nights when I couldn't sleep, and I'd stare into the stars. The stars were nothing compared to her eyes, I could get lost in them forever.

"Maya?" She says, shaking me out of my almost trance. "Sorry" I say, smiling. We stare into each other eyes for a while, feeling the serenity of being in the presence of the other.

I interrupt our time by breaking into an intense coughing fit, feeling like my lungs were going to give out. "That totally killed the vibe." I say, laughing. "Now, let's get you all better so we can go home and celebrate." She says, kissing my forehead again.

"Did you see Andy? Is she okay?" I ask, suddenly remembering what brought me here. "Yes, Bambina I did see her. She's not awake yet, she's still on oxygen to help her lungs heal. She should be awake soon." She says, "and her partner?" I add, I watch as carina makes the face. She doesn't know she does it, but I know her better than I know myself. "I'm sorry May, she didn't make it. She was bleeding internally from the second the crush injury happened, and didn't make it to the hospital."

My heart drops. It's always a weird feeling when you're on a call and someone doesn't make it back. It makes you wonder what you did differently, what force caused you to live and then to die. "I heard what you did out there. For Andy. It.. you.. You would do anything for the people you care about. I just hate that that aspect of you causes you to put yourself in danger." She says, sighing. Her hand grabs mine.

"All I could think about was how she has a husband and kids at home. And how if it was me out there, I'd want someone to think about you and about Drea, and the baby." I say, getting a little teary eyed at the thought of ever leaving them.

A knock on the door takes me out of our bubble. "Chief Ross. Hello" I say as she lets herself in. "Captain Bishop, I find what you did was very heroic, and I applaud your teams ability to risk it all for one another. I do, however, find your actions extremely idiotic. You could've killed yourself out there, and then we would've had to replace two firefighters. I'm not asking you to stop being a hero, I'm asking you to stop and think before." She says, sighing.

"I understand, Chief." I say "your team is going to have the rest of the week off. I expect you to notify them of this. See you on Monday." She says, before heading out. "Did she just call me an idiot?" I ask, turning to carina. "Maybe" she replies, smiling.

Another hour or so passes, nurses checking my vitals every so often. "When can I leave?" I ask the most recent one. "When your stats return to normal. You're still on oxygen right now." She says, taking some notes before leaving.

I turn to carina who is very uncomfortably sitting in the chair beside my bed. "Babe come lay with me." I say, moving over to give her space. She gets on the bed laying on her side with her head on my shoulder.

I put my hand on her small bump, feeling our baby kick ever so gently. "How have you been? How's Drea?" I say, my voice raspy. She hands me her waterbottle, "I've been good, still nauseous. Drea has been great, but she misses her mom a lot." She replies, running her hands through my hair.

"How do you feel?" She asks me, "okay, I'm tired, but my lungs feel a lot better." I reply, taking a deep breath. We lay there for a while in silence, just happy to be in the others company.

"Carina when I was out there, all I could think about was you and the kids..." I start, "sí" she replies. "and.. I.. I was just thinking..." I continue, "mmhm" she says, "marry me" I spit out."Bella were already married, are you.. do you have a concussion?" She says, sitting up.

"No" I reply, laughing. "I just feel like we need a new start. I want to renew my commitments to you, and my promises. Will you, Carina DeLuca, marry me again?" I continue, looking into her eyes. "Yes, Bella. I will." She replies smiling. She kisses me gently. She takes off her ring, and reaches into her pocket, handing me her ring and keeping mine in her hand.

I smile at her, before taking her hand and placing her ring on her finger. She does the same to me, before kissing me again. She lays back down on my shoulder, kissing it gently before falling asleep.

I run my fingers through her hair gently, listening to the quiet sounds of her snores. I quietly promise to myself to never hurt her again. I almost lost her love, I almost broke apart my family.
