Mayas pov

I hear a knock on my office door, pulling me out of the trance of paperwork I was buried in. "Come in" I say, yawning. This is my last shirt before I go on leave, but it's a 24. I have 6 hours left until I can go home, that's only if there isn't a fire.

"Hi Bella" I hear carinas voice ring out. I look up from my desk to see her and Drea. I can't help but smile. I stand up from my desk, Drea jumps into my arms. "Hi bug". I say, holding her tight. I give carina a quick kiss, before she puts a coffee in my hands.

"We thought you might need a pick up" she says smiling. "It's a pick-me-up, but yes. I really did." I say, smiling wide. "I thought you were supposed to be resting." I say to Carina, my hand traveling down to her bump. She rolls her eyes at me, "who's the obgyn here?" She says, touching the pins on my shirt.

I know she knows what she's doing, but I get nervous. I don't want her driving, I don't want her doing anything that could put her or the baby in danger. I open my mouth to ask how she's feeling, but the siren interrupts me. I sigh, praying it's a fast call. "Go, Bella. Be safe. We'll be at home waiting for you." Carina says, kissing my cheek.

"I love you both." I say, before heading to out my turnouts on. "Love you mommy" Drea says, "I love you may" carina adds.

Carinas pov

We head home after Mayas call, I was hoping she wouldn't be busy. I feel a slight cramp in my stomach on the drive home. "Not now, bambino." I whisper, placing my free hand on my stomach.

We get home, Drea heads to the living room to play with her toys while I make lunch. After a few more cramps, I give in, realizing I am in labor. I'm no where near having to go to the hospital, which is relieving, but I just hope Maya makes it home soon.

I grab my phone, texting Maya. "How much longer on the call?" I say, "still probably a few hours out, why?" She replies. "Just wondering" I reply. I sigh as a slight panic hits my gut. This is not how I wanted this to go.

A few hours later

I hear a knock at the door, opening it to see Katherine. "Thank you for coming." I say, giving her a hug. "Of course, where's Maya?" She asks. "Still on a call" I reply, sighing. "How far apart are your contractions?" She asks, setting her purse down. "10 minutes, I probably have an hour or so until I should head to the hospital.".

Katherine agreed to watch Drea for us while we are in the hospital, but it's seeming like she might have to be my ride now. Maya hasn't answered my last few texts, the call has probably gotten worse.

After about 30 minutes, my contractions are about 5 minutes apart. I need to go to the hospital within the next hour. I need Maya. I call her chief, bouncing my leg as the phone rings. "Dr. Deluca, to what do I owe the pleasure?" Ross says. "Can I have an update on Mayas call?" I say, trying to control my breathing through a contraction.

"You know I can't give that information out." She replies. "I am in labor, and I need my wife to come home." I spit out. The line is silent for a few seconds, before she says "I can head to the site and take over for her, do you know who she has lined up to cover for her in her absence?" She says.

"Herrera" I reply. "Okay, I'll head to the site now, and send your wife home. She should be home within the hour. Congratulations, Dr. Deluca." She says. "Thank you Chief." I say, hanging up.

The next hour moves by so slowly; the mix of pain im in, and the fact that I'm waiting on Maya makes it ten times worse. My phone rings, it's Maya. "Hi Bella" I say, biting my cheek as another contraction hits. "Carina I'm on my way, I should be there in 5. Is Katherine there?" She says, I can hear the panic in her voice.

"Yes she's here. I'm okay Maya, please drive safe." I reply. "Okay, I love you. I'll see you soon." She says before hanging up. I go upstairs to grab the bag we packed for the hospital, and head back downstairs to wait for Maya.

Mayas pov

I have definitely blown 3 red lights, I'm driving like a maniac. I can't believe carinas in labor and I'm not there. I pull into the driveway and burst out of the car, running up to the house and in through the front door.

I see her in the kitchen, her hands gripping the counter, I can hear her breathing from here. I stand behind her, pushing on her hips to relive some of the pressure. "Maya we need to go to the hospital." She says. In a panic I grab the bag from the table, and her hand. We slowly head out to the car.

I start driving to the hospital, holding her hand tight as another contraction rips through her body. "Carina I'm so sorry I wasn't.." I start but she interrupts me. "Don't apologize. You're here." She says, her breathing heavy.

We head into the hospital,  and Jo gets us settled in our suite. My heart is racing. "You said no pain medication, correct?" Jo asks carina. "Yes." She replies, as she settles in the bed, her legs in the stirrups.

"You're about 7 cm dilated, I'll be back in an hour to check in on you. Page me if you need anything." Jo says smiling. I help carina out if the bed, so she can walk around. She wants the same delivery she had with Drea, no medication. Nothing to advance labor, nothing to ease the pain.
