" A Promise mean everything, but once it is broken, sorry means nothing " - Unknown
I once had a day when I made a mistake that held my future with Belle by a string. The auditions for the school play were that very day.
My anxiety levels were raised so high, they broke the meter. I was jumpier and more talkative than usual. It felt weirdly nice to look forward to watching students perform cute little performances, then mess up.
Miss Axep ( The one talking smack about Belle) was going to be choosing half of the cast as I was responsible for the other half. Countless students had signed up and were in line for the roles. I hadn't seen Belle in that line. A knot tied inside my stomach.
My fear : She's not coming...
Many of the other students waved at me, shouted hellos, and I smiled back kindly. But it wasn't sincere. None of the smiles or forced laughs I made were sincere.
My foot tapped restlessly. Then I spotted her. Hiding behind the curtain, She peeked out, waiting for the line to diminish. She had waited and peered out then and again, to the point only three were left. She lined up behind the three. I beamed. She showed. She really showed. Miss Colette Axep scoffed "Abigail's isn't that great, so why are you so engulfed in her acting?"
" We see things differently Colette" I simply stated, not putting it up for discussion, then went back to resting my chin on my palm as I gawked at Belle. I wasn't engulfed in Abigail's act, I was engulfed in Belle's uneasy pacing. Finally, the moment had come, Belle's turn. Save the best for last. "Now, Belle, who might you be trying out for?" Asked Colette.
"I'd like to play Odile on the Swan's Lake Story" she declared. More words to hum to on my broken record player.
                                  Wait.
The blood inside my veins shrieked to a deadlock. The color on my face faded to pastel. My chin, teeth, tongue and all dropped. She wouldn't get the part. I wasn't in charge of Odile. Colette was. Colette loathed Belle. Belle's getting kicked to the curb.
I regained my stance. Aplomb. "Wouldn't you like to audition for another role...?" I held the script up, looking up at Belle on the stage. "Such as Odette?" I was in charge of Odette. I could have stood there and kept up a monologue on how the English alphabet came to be and Belle would have been polite enough to listen to my chit chat for as long as it lasted. In my opinion, Belle was a ravishing beauty standing there, kind enough to give us the time of day.
"No. I'm sure. My mom played Odile back when she was... Around"
F*ck.
Sentimental attachment. I surrendered as she begun. The beaming lights illuminated her skin in a way. Words- Heck, not even I can describe. She was a grace of innocence stuck here on earth with all the other corrupted bastards. And I shall always sympathize her for that.
I examined Colette's visage. She appeared lost in Belle's performance as well. Maybe. Maybe there's a chance Belle's getting the role. Just maybe.
                                  "That was wonderful!" Exclaimed Colette.
 Maybe yes?
In that moment, It was over, Belle's audition had been completed. Indiscreetly, I wanted her to dance for me. Only me. I desired to be the only one watching her, and the only one she thought of putting on a good performance for. But it wasn't that way. She was afraid of possibly not getting the role, of not falling, and many other factors that had gathered up inside that pretty little head of hers.
Colette's expression was back to stale and unimpressed. Why do you hate her so much? What did my sweet Belle ever do to you? Belle was a dancing grace among the rest! But I didn't say such, not wanting to pull the loose thread of the jumper to start an unwinnable argument. You can never win with Colette. She has to be right even when wrong.
Belle smiled proudly. I yearned for her to be prideful of me the same manner she was of her dancing. "That'll be all Belle, the roles will be posted soon " Belle nodded curtly, happily, then vanished behind the curtain.
"Can we exchange the cast? You get my cast, I get yours? We choose who goes where" Were the first words to bunk my lips.
She suspiciously observed my visage. I was desperate. I didn't care how desperate I appeared as long as I got her characters. I was willing to do anything. Anything, "No" she spoke bluntly. Blunt. As. A. stick.
                                 "Why not?" I whined. Anything.
"Seeing you in despair is quite amusing" she grinned.
I sighed looking down, then back up to her with a firm face. "What will it take to get your cast?"
"Well, now that your asking" Colette had a devious expression. I cringed, "I haven't gotten to know you very well"
I hope she's not going where she's headed.
"So let's go out," And she went there. "As friends. Clear up the bad blood we've both gathered. I have accumulated far too many enemies. Maybe you can put in a kind word for me. How does that sound?"
                                  "T- That's it..?" I didn't. I couldn't believe it.
" Oh, I also get to keep a couple of my characters on my behalf"
    I cringed.
    "Which characters?" I asked cautiously.
"Odile" I was in paralysis, "Odile is my favorite from Swan Lake's Story"
"Who will get the role of Odile?"
She looked up at the vacant stage. To take a moment. To make her mind. "You want the role for Belle, don't you?"
Had I made it so obvious? Oh well, "I promised her"
I took little consideration on the fact that we practice separately. I wouldn't see Belle for an extra hour. Belle's needs before mine.
"Okay. I'll give your beloved Belle the role" My cheeks flamed. She called Belle "your beloved Belle". As if Belle were mine. As if I were the one to kiss her goodnight. Or the one Belle ran to for help. But. I wasn't.
                              Okay guys:)
Can you please bear with me through these opening times until the stuff gets really good? Yeah? Please?
