Amerie wanted each of us to film a day in the life as a CEO for The Dream's YouTube page which I was pretty down for. We all lead such different lives that it will be interesting to show our routines from start to finish.
"Good morning." I cover my mouth as I feel a yawn threatening to surface. "It is a few minutes past six and I have to head into the office since we have a big shoot today. There's a lot of admin work to be done as well so I will be bringing you guys a long for the day."
I let out a small groan while holding the camera up in the air.
"I just need a minute to really wake up then we will do my thirty minute walk around my property." Another yawn leaves my lips before I force myself to stand up as I know that I will end up falling asleep again.
The next hour goes by in a blur as I talk people through what I'm doing without showing too much as this time is a pretty intimate moment for me. By the time that I have arrived at the headquarters, the cameraman is waiting for me and it's a cute moment as we stand there filming eachother.
"I'm not going to give you a tour of the office as it's being refurbished and the big boss plans to do a full tour." I smile while going into the lift. "The first thing that I need to do is go to my office and have a look at what I have to do. Amerie likes to write stuff down on the board so it's easy for us to have an understanding of where she left off and what's left to do."
I go around greeting the staff who are already there before making myself a matcha iced latte since you can never have too many.
"The first thing that I need to do is sort out the paperwork on the desk which is a piece of cake. They need to be sorted in order of importance, deadline and priority." I explain while taking a seat at the desk. "Then I need to answer some emails and I this have one zoom call. The shoot starts in two hours so I have more than a enough time to sort through this trainwreck which sounds crazy to say because I never would have been able to have done any of this."
It takes me a little over an hour to sort through the piles and start making my way through the emails which are heavily focused on collaborations. There were a few about distributions which I've highlighted for Amerie since she makes the final decision on where we will selling our products.
"Now that I'm pretty much up to date with what I have to do, I'm going to have breakfast during my meeting then I'm heading down to the shoot." I get up from my seat. "Post shoot I will be sitting down with the team to go over everything that we have done and where we will go from then. Amerie is currently on the phone with the team so I'm going to wrap this up and head on down."
Filming my day in the life at work was surprisingly better than expected and it allowed me to see the growth within myself. I had never considered myself a girl boss or someone that people would look to but as I was directing the shoot and having the meeting, I felt a feeling of empowerment.
