🇺🇸 Nina's POV (The next day in the USA, Eric's house, LA)
Since yesterday's trial ended very late, Eric offered me a place to stay at his house. It's not the first time I've stayed at his place, especially considering my house is far away. In addition to that, Eric was exhausted after yesterday, so I didn't want to burden him with driving me back home, hence I decided to stay here...
I woke up a bit earlier and, after taking a shower and changing for the day, I left one of the guest rooms I was sleeping in and went to the kitchen. Meanwhile, I checked Eric's bedroom, but he was sleeping like the dead. Am I surprised? Not at all...
Yesterday, you can't even imagine how well Eric was doing while interrogating all of Mike's friends. Since the trial lasted around 12 hours, you can understand how many interrogations there were. Nevertheless, Eric handled everything perfectly, creating a positive image of Mike in front of the jury. And you know what? Even without strong evidence, the jury seemed to believe in Mike's good heart and were inclined to give him an acquittal. They heard numerous stories about Mike helping other friends, engaging in charity, and assisting homeless people. There was absolutely no one who would say a bad word about Mike, so Henry was completely hopeless. It cost Eric a lot of energy and hard work, yes, but I must admit that I admire his skills, talent, and knowledge even more after that trial. However, everything was completely destroyed in the end...
When Eric was so close to finally convincing the jury, Mike must have destroyed everything by sacrificing himself for Violet. Of course, we all know how lie detectors work, and if only Mike had been determined enough to tell that lie, the light would have obviously turned green. However, it completely undermined all of Eric's efforts and hard work. And why did that happen? Because of an old-fashioned lawyer from Massachusetts who simply manipulated Mike and made him confess to everything. It was such an obvious trap, yet Mike fell for it and gave up his freedom...
I mean, of course, what Mike did was simply beautiful and it proved to me how much he loves Violet. However, because of that, an innocent guy will go to jail for the rest of his life. Technically, we don't know the verdict yet, as we're heading to court in a few hours, but we're already aware of what we're going there for..
When I entered Eric's kitchen, I decided to make the morning a bit easier and nicer for him, so I prepared breakfast and coffee for him. Meanwhile, I also called Elena, but she's feeling just as hopeless as Eric. She's angry at Mike too, yes, but she mentioned that she can't bring herself to blame him because she's aware of how much Mike loves Violet. It was obvious for her that Mike would admit to the murder in order to keep Violet safe from arrest...
What can I say? It's simply fucked up...
While I was pouring hot water into the mug, I heard the kitchen door open slightly, causing me to glance in that direction. There he was, Eric, shirtless and wearing only his black shirt, still quite sleepy but looking much better than yesterday. Seeing that, I breathed a sigh of relief, knowing he had taken the rest he needed. He rubbed his face and then scratched his messy hair, and his gaze fixing on me with a look of surprise...
Eric: Have you been up long ago? - He moved to me with his slightly narrowed eyes.
Nina: Some time ago, yes - I smiled and turned to him with his coffee mug - Early enough to make your morning a bit nicer. Especially, for taking a bagger under your roof for the night - I chuckled and reached it to him.
Eric: Oh, Nina - His gaze softened as he looked at the mug and me - You didn't have to and...
Nina: I don't accept complaints, just thanks - I raised my finger.
