Washington, D.C.

-------------------------------------------------------------

"Are you hungry? I mean, you must be, especially after all my rambling about United States history," Steve pauses in the middle of his walk with Madelyn around hot spots of D.C.. They have stopped right around the Washington Monument.

"Actually, yeah I am kind of hungry. But I enjoyed your rambling. I kinda missed out on learning a lot of U.S. history. Nat and Clint got me into some education courses when they rescued me, but they didn't go as in depth as you did. Not about this stuff at least," Madelyn answers, gesturing to the historical monuments around them.

Steve looks down to the ground and smiles, sheepishly. He doesn't ever get to ramble on about this stuff. Not anymore.

"So," Madelyn snaps Steve out of his thoughts, "what's a good place to eat?"

"Uh, well, it depends on the time of day, but," Steve takes a moment to think, "I would say Bradley's is the best little diner to eat at for dinner. It's not overly packed like a lot of these fancy restaurants for all the government officials. It reminds me of home actually."

"And where is that?" Madelyn asks, as the two begin to walk.

"Oh, it's right up the street around the corner. There's a rusty wooden sign with the name on it, can't miss it-"

"No, Steve," Madelyn giggles at his confusion, "Where is home for you?"

"OH," Steve is a little embarrassed, "Uh Brooklyn."

"New York? That's awesome."

"Yeah, it was great," Steve smiles, reflecting on his childhood memories there.

The two walk the rest of the way in comfortable silence. When they reach Bradley's, they stop at the front.

"And here we are," Steve grins and opens the door, gesturing for Madelyn to come inside.

Madelyn stares at the diner sign. She tilts her head as she takes it in.

"I know this place," Madelyn mumbles.

Steve stares, letting the door go and stepping closer to Madelyn, "We can go somewhere else."

"No," Madelyn snaps her head to Steve, "I want to remember why I know this place."

Steve nods and opens the door again, allowing Madelyn to walk in first. Once inside, Madelyn slowly looks around, searching for any detail to tell her what memory she has here.

"How many?" The cashier behind the counter asks.

Steve answers while Madelyn stares aimlessly, "Two."

"Sit wherever," the cashier states, grabbing an order out of the kitchen window.

Steve looks to Madelyn who looks a little defeated, as she hasn't made any progress.

Steve starts walking toward a booth in the corner, and he waves Madelyn over.

Madelyn slides into the booth across from Steve, sighing as she rests into the leathery cushion.

"Sorry about that," Madelyn apologizes.

"Don't be," Steve says, "You have no reason to be."

"I just,"

Steve nods, wanting to learn more about her, hoping she will trust him enough to confide in him.

"I don't remember a lot of my childhood," Madelyn finally gets out, "After I was kidnapped, after they....I can't remember what life was like before. When I try, I just see my, um, my mother...after they...after she, um..."
